Nice looking Westone Thunder II bass. I think this is the V3 which was the medium scale one.
It looks very nice indeed and a good price if you are close to Yeovil.

That is nice. With the hard case, I'd think the buy it now price is reasonable. I didn't remember seeing Thunder 2 basses with two jazz pickups. A quick google shows there to be quite a few pickup variations for Thunder II basses.

El Maya neck-through Precision. Don't think I've ever seen one of these before.

Antoria EB3 copy, seen a few miles:

That El Maya's pretty gorgeous, if you've got a thing for hippy sandwich stripy wood, like wot I do.

That was listed a few days ago, and I'm surprised it's taken this long to appear on here. Anyone going to take a punt?

Sorry for being slow - I think it's because Annoying Twit has been seduced away from this thread and into the realms of Deko :-)

I was tempted but no, no punting for me - I already have a nice Precision and a BB800, besides it looks just a bit too much like it's made from chopped-up coffee tables.

You probably spotted this Cimar a long time ago too. Think this one is a bit overpriced - is that likely to be the original bridge?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CIMAR-VINTAGE-BASS-60s-70s-GREAT-COND-PLAYS-GREAT-EXPENSIVE-STINGS-FITTED/201256158914?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D1831c35fa6204e5c9fd03258afd95e25%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D261743365819&rt=nc

Yes - that's the original bridge. Considering it's restored (scratchplate, probably pickup, looks like a refin too) it's definitely a bit steep. I have the P/J version of this that I'll be moving on soon, similarly a restoration, and I won't be selling mine for that much.

[sharedmedia=core:attachments:63117]

I do like the El Maya but I already have too many P-type basses I never play & don't need another, no matter how many innocent coffee-tables died to make it!

Nice fretted Thunder III. Surely it will sell for that starting price.
£517 + p&p!!!!!! Surely that's a healthy price even for a Thunder III. I thought the £300-400 range was normal.

In terms of bass buying as a competitive sport, Deko watching is like Rollerball compared to the Lawn Bowls of ebay. When my program suddenly announces through the speech synthesiser that there are new Dekos up, and the Thomann page automatically loads in my browser, I have but seconds to scan the list of new arrivals before they're gone.

If it counts for anything, all my bass practice today was on my very early 1980s Japanese made Rickenfaker, while the Deko fretless acoustic sat forlornly in its spot behind the television.

Yep, Same bridge as on my Cimar PJ as well......Mine was fitted out of alignment though so it now sports the one of my Blazer.

Is that the same one that sold for "less than a poxy Westone Thunder" a couple of months back? If so, stupid failed buyer!

Hope it either a: sells for a more sensible price, or b: sells for less than a poxy Westone Thunder to a discerning BCer who appreciates quality bargain JapCrap*.

*Not me, because I've got a near-identical (but rarer) SB40

Nor me - I have way too many basses as it is plus I have just started an illicit love affair with a couple of recently pulled Danelectros. :gas:

But it is nice...

But while I am here - what is poxy about a Westone Thunder?

Nothing at all - great quality budget basses. But yer Force 40 was top of the range & should be more akin to an Aria SB1000 or Ibby MC940 in terms of prestige.

You probably saw my original post, but anyway:

So just for the sake of discussion, you understand... :) , do you know how much one of these is likely to weigh? Neck width? Looks active - yah?

Posted

Just for the sake of the discussion - pretty sure this one's active, and my SB-40 (same apart from headstock & electronics) is around 8lbs, so not a back-breaker. Narrow string spacing (that's a neck-width J pup at the bridge) and about 38mm at the nut.

Mine's one of the nicest basses I've owned. :)

And from the sublime to the (almost) ridiculous, and rather nasty Thunder 1A. He's only asking £100 for it but does need some love.

Well, that El Maya neck-through P went for £485 - more than I was expecting to see it go for.
I guess it's kinda heartening (in a way) to know Ebay Madness is still with us - I'd thought it would probably top out at about £250. However this is staggeringly, spectacularly rare (I've only seen one before, and that was probably 10-12 years ago) and some MIJ fetishists do have deep pockets.

Yarp, built by Fujigen and pretty decent all-round. Longscale slot-heads are rare as pope-poo as well, the exact same bass with Ibanez on the end would probably top out around the £400 mark.

I had a shortscale Antoria EB, very good little bass - I've also had a couple of the more common MIJ EB-0 copies and the Antoria was streets ahead.

Not a very accurate copy - long scale and bolt-on neck.
I'll give you the bolt-on (although Fujigen did do set-neck versions) but this is a copy of an EB-3L, which is 34".
