A google search finds this: http://guitarz.blogspot.com/2010/03/moridi...xb-01-bass.html

But, the basses look very different. So, perhaps the use of the word "Hurricane" is concidental.
The "Hurricane" script logo looks identical between the two basses, so I'm guessing they're from the same stable.

Daion precision which has been taken to more pieces than you would normally see, even for a "project".

Not an ebay link, but look at this bizarre thing. A "Johnny Pro II". http://www.matsumoku.org/ggboard/viewtopic...596&start=0

After seeing the (IMHO) beautiful guitar being discussed on Ibanez Collectors World, I searched for Kay. Found this one:

So many Maya bass guitars, so little time.

Jarock made in the same factory as Ibanez? Jon, you said before that you thought the 6 string Jarock blazer was not a Fujigen made instrument. I presume the same applies to this bass?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1970-80s-Vintage-Jar...=item4152bfe4f4

Rather modern-looking Aria Pro II. But the model number checks out as being '85-6.

I think they're Blazer copies - close but not quite right, and lots of details that don't say Fujigen. Still pretty cool though - I bid on a pink sparkly version of this bass a couple of years back & I'm not exactly averse to this blue one! :)

Saw that. I'd just assume the neck route's a modification by a previous (Sheehan-fan?) owner. You don't often tend to find dates on JapCraps - one of the reasons dating 'em accurately is so hard.
a " Cort" Vintage Fretless Bass Dunno is it vintage or not or indeed a cort?

gumtree
It's a Cort - you can just make out the logo in the 3rd pic, and probably quite old by the looks of it. Nice Schaller 3D bridge, and the pups could be Seymour Dunks. Looks like it's been de-fretted, so it's anyone's guess what the neck's like.

That's a Lazer/Laser (LEB) series model, manufactured between '85 and '87 officially, but some '88 examples circulate. There were two models, the Classic (CLS) and Heritage (HRT), available in flat and burst finishes. Unfortunately his statement that these were built by Matsumoku is incorrect. This model was never produced at the Matsumoku factory complex. (He also seems somewhat confused about the history of Matsumoku - the Singer Corporation didn't buy the complex post-Matsumoku, it owned the complex and Matsumoku, and the complex consisted of more than one factory. The unit in which guitars were made was neither destroyed by earthquake or fire, simply closed as it was not economically viable at the time - the time being a world recession.) The LEB series was manufactured in Japan, and reportedly Taiwan, although it's uncertain as to where, and by who.

Noel - I'm constantly impressed by the depth & detail of knowledge you have about Matsumoku instruments. Is there a particular source it's drawn from or is it a cumulative result of investigation/research? Hope you don't mind me being a nosy git but as I'm sure you know, accurate information can be hard to track down amid the suppositions & speculation.

Maya Tele bass.

PS: Thanks for the correction Noel. When I first saw the listing, my first thought was that it didn't look like a Matsumoku made bass. But the year of manufacture checked out, so I posted without mentioning any quibbles. Which factory would it have been made in?

I'm sure the seller will be able to tell you how much it weighs if you ask. Good luck.

Congratulations! I'm sure she'll really enjoy it. So much more interesting to buy a classic instrument than to buy yet another Squier.
