Does the scratch plate hide any routing or is it just been plonked on? And is it the same neck as the other Mats - 40mm at the nut-type thing?
There's a bit of a gap around the pup - a couple of mm on the sides & straight across the top of the screw lug - but there are no routes or channels. If I binned the plate on mine I'd buy/make a black surround to cover the gap. Nut width is 40mm.

Prices of these are weird - I've seen them go for over £200 but I snagged mine for £60 - admittedly it was a bit of a project. I wouldn't be surprised if this one sat without any bids for a week & then just got a couple in the closing minutes.
It also says "Made In Japan", which realistically is what a Hondo needs to say in order for it to be considered not to be Korean, and probably plywood! That's actually a lovely bass, if a bit beat-up & well worth what it went for.

The other one's just your standard Samick-made Korean cheapo, as are the overwhelming majority of Hondos. Pretty much everything else I know about Hondos is already in the other thread you mentioned.

I have one of these. Hondo

What a cracking bass.

If you ever see one, go for it.

I promise I won't bid . . . . . . . . Honest!! :P :) :)

Cheers. :D

Some attic fayre here, and surely too 80's looking for most, but I think it's so garish I'm quite drawn to it. Worth a punt?

Westone Raider in 2-colour metalflake? Oh, my word! :)

So far sticking to my self-discipline resolution here. It's not easy.
It's a real shame about "marking the frets" on the fretboard ... what a waste.

Presumably they could be gently sanded out and the fretboard re-finished, but it hardly seems worth it on a £150 bass.
I wonder if the lines are all in the right places.

Most people aren't fantastically good a tidying things up to sell them, I would be surprised if the lines wouldn't clean off. Depends how they are marked, if it's some sort of ink, then a bit of acetone will sort it out, won't damage the lacquer either. Failing that, T-cut & elbow grease!

That's a very nice bass btw - light-years ahead of my Maya P.

Hey you guys, stop saying things like that!!! While I'm sure it'll go for well over the starting price and this is all academic, I'm bl**dy tempted. The lines on the fretboard may not be a problem for me. While I haven't tried an unlined fretless, at present I am tending towards lines. These remaining lines might be a compromise. But, I would prefer to wait until gear buying budget builds up a bit more. If it did go for its starting bid, I'm not sure I could resist. But, I assume the lines won't knock £70 off the previous £150 estimated value.

Simple solution to that one, Ross - forget it & buy my Yammy BB400! :)

I still very much like the idea. But if I don't follow my own insanely convoluted budgeting rules then I don't have any moral standing any more to say that "we can't really afford X". Jon. You are getting sleepy, very sleepy, you will forget that you have a BB400 until the end of March. When I click my fingers you will be awake and remember nothing.

:) By March it's just about possible I might have given it the decent clean it's needed since I got it!

I've seen these before - It's a Kay. More likely Taiwan than Japan, this was pretty much top of the range, if Kay could be said to have a range for it to be top of.

Includes two basses if you don't mind buying twenty six strings at the same time.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/22-Old-electric-guit...=item41567ee0e5

It does take all types to make up ebay's sellers community, doesn't it.

Edit:
please email me for questions, but i am not going to go through all parts and models.
I also have a listing coming on in 1 hour for 22 hard cases as well.
Words fail me ....

Bloody hell - that's some collection of Car Boot Classics! Wonder how much he'll get for them, flogging them like that? Admittedly, as firewood goes, there are a few very sellable JapCraps in there that would do nicely if sold separately.

Sad reality is, these, and the cases, will almost certainly go to an Ebay dealer. :)

The Ibanez/cimar blazer type strat and the westone/aria matsumoko guitars are the ones I recognise as ones to flip. Watched. Anyone else who is after PM so we don't bid each other up.
