john_the_bass
Putting together a 3 piece for pubs and stuff like that. Wondered what sort of songs you would recommend. A lot of the stuff we do in the 5 piece sounds a bit empty as a 3 piece. Suggestions please!!

skankdelvar
Any band comprising vox / 1 gtr / bass / drums? After that, it all hinges on a fat guitar sound, a bass player who can fill the song out and a drummer who understands the idea of light and shade. john_the_bass
Thanks guys, keep 'em coming. I'm going to be playing guitar (and singing, God help us) in this band, although bass duties will be taken on by none other than BC's own Boy Thunder (who?). Already settled on Police, Nirvana, Cream and Green Day songs and Hey Joe too. Anybody got a cheap Unibass (no, thought so! )

tonybassplayer
That looks a decent list I was playing in a trio last year and the songs we tried with a little finesse just didn't work in a noisy pub My thoughts would be to keep them powerful and fast ( ish ) to keep things moving

I play Bass and do the Vox for a 3 piece Blues band RE: MP3 Links I use an Ashdown rig and fill the bass sound 'very slightly' using the harmonizer, not to much or it just gets foggy. There are times I'd like the sound a wee bit fuller. A rhythm guitarist in a box , now that's a thought. Any web site or uTube clips you can point me at? Thanks Oggy

We are a similar set up, Guitar, Bass, Drums and a non playing singer. I will sound a bit empty from a 5 piece but you will soon get used to it and should. from my experience, get tighter than the 5 piece. Chris_B mentioned Sweet home and Free Bird - Yes that's possible as well, we do both of them. You have a few in your list that we do and as we are probably going to be doing the same curcuit, I had beter not spill the beans but what you have looks good. What I would say is, that when you have got used to the three of you, almost anything is worth having a go at, it's quite surprising what can be achieved. All the best in your new band - tip me the nod when you are up and running and I'll come and give you a bit of support. Cheers.
