I bought these here a couple of months back for my Lakland 55-01, but having used the bass quite a bit recently I'm happy enough with the standard Barts. These look brand new, but have been used (although not by me - I think they originally belonged to niceguyhomer and came to me via sshorepunk who didn't use them as they were the wrong string spacing for him).

Dual coil p/ups, made by Nordstrand, very highly rated and around £260 / pair -ish!

From Nordstrand:-

[i]"This is a modern design dual coil humbucking pickup. Pickups like these are usually found on very high end basses. They use Alnico V magnets and the traditional bi-pole layout with two poles per string. It's almost like two Jazz Bass® style pickups in one cover.


These pickups are available in two different versions. One set is designed to be wired in parallel, and the other in series. The reason we do this is that a pickup that is made to sound good wired parallel will usually be too hot and dark sounding if wires in series. So, we put less wire on a series dual coil than a parallel dual coil. In general, a pickup wired in series will have a fuller and fatter midrange with a subdued high end than a pickup wired in parallel, which will typically have more highs and a deeper low end with a cleaner midrange. Series pickups also have more output than parallel pickups. Parallel pickups are generally a better choice for a split-able installation, as there will not be the gain loss associated with series pickups.

These pickups are available only in black plastic covers with exposed pole pieces. These are a direct replacement for Bartolini BC, P2, P4 soapbar size pickups, and are also available for EMG 35/40/45 sized pickups."[/i]


These are Bartolini P2 replacements (size is 4.25" x 1.25"), suitable for 19mm string spacing @ bridge.


£100 plus postage takes these (which is what I paid). I would keep them but I'm trying to build up my mac/studio fund at the minute!

I wonder if they'll fit my Peavey C5... Are they from a 5 string?

They're made for 5 string basses. Not familiar with the Peavey C5. Don't most Peavey bass pickups usually have 'wings' (mounting points) in similar positions to jazz bass pickups?

Going by this from the Nordstrand website:

[i]All dual coils and humbuckers except Music Man replacement - for series: black = hot, green plus bare = ground, red and white together and taped off. For parallel: black and red = hot, green, white, and bare = ground. Black and white are the bridge coil and red and green are the neck coil. [/i]

the pickups are currently wired for series operation, but since they came from niceguyhomer's Shuker with series/parallel switches fitted they are suitable for wiring in parallel too.

Not sure if that answers your question I'm afraid. I'd intented to fit them with series/parallel switched myself, for max tonal variation. I'll PM niceguyhomer and get back to you...

Alan (niceguyhomer) isn't overly sure himself, other than they were installed for series/parallel operation and I intended to do the same so didn't ask too many questions when I bought them from Tony. The pickups themselves don't have any markings to distinguish which they are either, although they've come to me wired in series. I'll have to be honest and say I haven't a clue which they are :blush:
