Dread Bass
ok might be joining an industrial metal band what distortion do you think would work well. i have tried with my big muff and am not winning. this may be gas but i fancy a sansamp
ahpook
the boss obd3 bass overdrive has been described as very industrial-sounding...admittedly not in a 100% good light, but it might be worth a try out. it was too much for me, but a very fuzzy tone - it has the blend function and 2-band eq too. tayste_2000
Boss FZ-
Dread Bass
cool i will look into these
queenofthedepths
Not just to be awkward, I'd suggest using BOTH of them... I use an ODB3 and the distortion on my ME-50 - individually they work fairly well and together they're absolutely monstrous - I play a fair bit of industrial metal so they should suit your needs
Dread Bass
yeah its not a bad idea that im looking for a fz-2 first. they r discontinued so bidding on ebay just now
Clunge
I just want to get the NIN bassist's live tone. It's so smooth and crunchy and fuzzy, but it cuts through so well.
Maximus
Tayste says the Boss FZ-2 replicates the NIN bassist's tone perfectly.
joegarcia
Yea, the FZ-2 is awesome. The MXR Blowtorch may be worth a look too if the sound samples I've heard are anything to go by.
mr pablo
Flame me now but there is a behringer copy of the FZ-2, blatant rip of IIRC, maybe a cheap option and if its any good rehouse it?
Musky
It's quite strange. I just looked on ebay at FZ-2's and they seemed to be going remarkably cheaply compared to a few years ago. Although they didn't seem to be hugely rated when they were available, they earned a reputation after they were deleted. Seems like that reputatation has gone - or maybe just the players du jour aren't using them anymore. Fashion can be so fickle, but great if you buy at the right time. Dread Bass
they do 2 a super fuzz and an ultra fuzz the ultra being the fz 2 copy has anyone tried it?
ARGH
Ignore all the above... Get a SansAmp and a Metalzone..either that or a TurboRat. VERY VERY nasty...but the Metalzone was the Blackmetal pedal of choice in the 90s. And I welcome anyone that uses Tech21 products!!
Musky
they do 2 a super fuzz and an ultra fuzz the ultra being the fz 2 copy has anyone tried it?
AFAIK the super fuzz is the FZ 2 copy - they both have bass and treble controls, compared to the Ultra Fuzz's single tone control. SkiingLizard
I'd get yourself along to a ZVEX dealer and try running a Machine into a Woolly Mammoth, but then you're looking at about 340 quid so not cheap - Machine - discounted and Woolly Mammoth
Clunge
What does the Machine do exactly? I guess it's Bass > Machine > Fuzz?
SkiingLizard
yeah you would use it bass -> machine -> fuzz -> amp it's somthing like normal fuzz generates odd harmonics and the machine generates even harmonics so if a bass sends a 1 to a normal fuzz, the fuzz generates 3 5 7 say if the same bass sends a 1 to a machine it generates 2 4 6 if you stack them you get 2 3 4 5 5 6 7 7 7 9 9 11 or something like that as the fuzz effects the added harmonics of the machine that's how I understand it anyway
Dread Bass
ok cool i won a fz-2 on flea bay for £20 not bad. I went for one of these after reading a few reviews and i like the fact it is discontinued.I will wait n try it if i dont like it i may look into a metalzone. skiing lizard id love to try out zvex but this is just for the audition and a jam so i cant justify the expenditure. next on my list is a whammy pedal. cheddatom
Metalzone's are great on bass! I got an XP-100 cheaper than you can get new WH-4s or any other whammy. Maybe look for one of them?
