Jono Bolton Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Would I be able to change the pickups in my Fender Marcus Miller Jazz and still use the pre-amp? As far as I can work out, it's 2 passive J-Bass pickups, with an optional 2 band pre-amp that I can switch in and out. In passive mode the MM sounds quite weedy, which is why I was thinking of changing the pickups. If I do, is it just a straight swap, or do I need active pickups or anything like that? Quote

HarryPotter Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I put Fender Vintage Noiseless ones in, and despite what I'd read they dropped straight in. I only did this to combat the evils of induction loops. I actually never use it active - I'm tempted to take the pre-amp and bits out. Quote
HarryPotter Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Oh yeah, and where do you order a new neck for a Marcus Miller from? Quote
Marcus Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 The pickups are fine in the Miller (USA) Rip that 50c pre-amp out and install an Aguilar OBP1 Quote
HarryPotter Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Yep, that's pretty much what I'd heard, I fitted stacked humbuckers to resolve a different issue (induction loops) Quote

Taking it to the shop to have it fitted on Friday. Quote

Keen to hear comments. thanks, Jim Quote
Paul_C Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 if it was mine I'd fit the John East version, the Marcus Retro 01. Quote
Plux_the_Duck Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I thinking of getting one of these... could you put EMG J-sets in, without changing the pre-amp? or would it be better to keep the pickups and change the pre to a John East or Aggy? Quote

Thanks though. Quote
originalfunkbrother Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I was thinking of changing the pre-amp to Sadowsky. Would that work or may someone please recommend a better pre-amp. I dont think I have a prob with the pick-ups. Quote
