I thought the Roscoe stuff was easily the best at the show. (I know what I shall be saving up for next...) - I seemed to spend most of the my time at the show at that particular stand... and Mark, Ped and the other guy (sorry, I forgot your name - the pilot guy) all were sound - nice to meet you all.

End of story. Otherwise, it was a pretty dissapointing affair...

Great to meet you too mate, you had some stunning skills. The Pilot bloke is Flanker. You could also have described him as the one who salivated over everything on the stand!

It was a great day and the atmosphere at the Bass Direct stand was just excellent. I had a brief wander around during the day and came running back to the sanctuary of more 'grown up' players who weren't hell bent on making a godawful racket. That was until I had a go, of course.

Thanks for the compliment dude! Ah - Flanker - I did notice that the strings on all the basses had a slightly wet, tacky feel to them...

Yeah, the Bass Direct stand really made the visit worthwhile for me - both the basses and the people - like your good self! Everything else there I really didn't have much time for... every year I say I won't be going again and yet again, I seem to find myself there...!

I highly doubt I would have paid to get in this year - £17 or something apparently? The London Guitar Show I went to with Kiwi was even worse - even more crowded and even LESS bass things! Remember the 'bass studio' advertised as a 'heaven for bass players' was an empty room with 3 men gathered around a markbass 610. Laughable.

Just to let you guys know after the success of Music Live - I will be trying to organise some open day/nights soon in the Midlands area, for starters, to allow Basschatters the chance to try out all this gear again and, if you like, bring your own gear in to A-B it.
The Roscoe arrived in time for the show then ..... did it sell?
Nick

Yep - the Roscoes arrived just as I was leaving to set up for the show!!!! :)

I sold the beautiful Bubinga SKB to a cool player from Stoke on Trent (Pete) and I have a couple of guys interested in the Redwood SKB that James is playing above - it was great to see the reaction of players who never picked one of these up before

Had a really good time on Sunday on the BassDirect stand giving out Basschat cards and porn pictures of Mark's gorgeous basses. I was almost cured of GAS for now .. then I played that Wood and Tronics Chronos Klimt .. wooooooowwwww

and despite only being able to play "Old Man" bass lines - I think that's what Mark said - just before he explained that if he played anything like that middle aged man slapping stuff in his band he'd be told to behave :)

I really must get a "show set" together for these things. I suspect I was the only person in the whole shed playing folk waltzes, Andrew Lloyd Webber tunes and using a plectrum more than my thumb

Missed Doug Wimbish but sounds like I didn't miss much there.

James .. flog the Fender mate. You play way too well for production line stuff ...

yeah, i think i watched nate playing, too. was he the one who was doing the cool thing where it recorded what he was playing then played on top of himself and again and again...? i think that was a basschatter, even if it wasn't nate.

+1 for the Doug Wimbish set - first number was ok, but I left during the third; very disappointing.

Didn't manage to spot any fellow basschatters. I started talking to a guy at the bass direct stand who was wearing a homer t-shirt, but he denied being Nice Guy Homer.

I think I saw Nate playing on several stands - stunning.

And the guitarist on string and things was superb as well.

Hehe... so... you reckon Celinder is where the action is? I shall have to hunt some down! It's going to take some to beat those Roscoes though! (and GB for that matter!)

Hey!

Wow - thank you for the kind comments...!! Was great to meet some fellow bass chatters. I'm still extremely tired from the weekend after working two stands non stop. I'll post the picture of my fingers soon. Possibly the best blisters I've ever had!! Though I was past the blister stage....boo hoo.

I got to jam with Jerry Brown (drummer) who was doing a clinic. He's a great player - so much fun to play with. Check him out!

Anyway - thanks again for the kind comments. The Purple Haze thing was just a bit of a jokey tribute to Jimi and Jaco....

Take it easy

That Klimt was for me the best bass at the show. Getting some cash together to buy it :) I am going to try and sell the fender now along with some old stuff including my first ever bass (Epiphone thunderbird ^^) in order to get some cash for it.

I had a band practice when I got back home from the NEC and I had to use my Thunderbird as my fender was unavailable. What a contrast  Playing that klimt then 2 hours later playing the Epiphone. I just felt completely spoiled lol.

I think any sentimental value I have attached to that bass is easily worth selling for a bit of extra funding for the W&T. Also since playing the Klimt and being able to compare it directly to the fender it really made me realize that a hell of a lot of the money you pay for a fender is in the brand name. The fender is nice, and it certainly is pretty but there's just no comparison.

Hah awesome, expect to see me at some of them :) I'll take a train up. Wouldn't mind trying some Bergantino cabs through my GK1001rb-II also. In love with those cabs. Would love to give a blast through the IP series as well. I've heard a lot of great response to those speakers. As it is now the EX/HT112's mini stack had me amazed. The 410 was just as great too. Got my sights set on these cabs.

I wasn't fond of it either at first but just playing it blew any looks issues out the window. Who cares what it looks like as long as its constructed well, sounds amazing and plays incredibly well. It's a musical instrument. How it looks should be only secondary concerns.

It's looks have grown on me somewhat though :)

When I am going to spending that sort of dollar on something, I don't want to wince everytime I look at it! OK, maybe that is a bit harsh but you know what I mean. I agree, it did play well... but personally, I would have gone for a Roscoe instead!
