I currently have 2 Laney 2x15 cabs, rated to 8ohmn and I am looking for a new bass head to power them.

I play in a Doom/sludge band with a lot of low end, and also play through a Bass Big Muff.

What head would be best for this purpose? I would prefer solid state.

please help...

As you are relying on your Bass and Pedal for your sound, maybe an amp that reproduces what you put into it?

A MarkBass LM2 would do the job.
.... and they are LOUD!

Anything that can get down to 4 Ohms (which is everything)

The LH500 and LMII or LMIII are great suggestions, and are very very loud.

In all likelihood if those cabs are older Laney 2x15s then if you significantly boost the bass on the amp then your speakers will fart out before those amps run out of juice.

An old Peavey Mark III head. Can go to 2 ohm if needed, loud as you want, and you can even crank up the gain and sell the big muff, cos you won't need it anymore. Not too hard to come by on the 'bay or here, and cheap.

To date we have no doom/sludge music in our covers catalogue, could we slip one into an 80s set? sounds great

They have a Peavey Tour 450 at our rehearsal place and it sounds surprisingly good. They're not expensive either. You might also have a bit of fun with the built in octaver. However, I read a lot of owner reviews complaining about the reliability. With that in mind, I'd probably consider the hartke.
