i was originally heading for quarter pounders but the wizards do crop up on here and they look like they will do a similar job.

Thanks in advance

I haven't AB's them on the same bass. However, I have a Jap Precision that is punchy as hell, and a ''73 Precision that was a lot mellower. The Jap has an SD (although I've just realised I'm not sure which one) and, whereas the Jap used to knock socks off the '73, the Wizard Thumper I've just installed in the '73 tends to cause the Jap to run away and wimper in the corner. The '73 now has much more punch when I need it but has lost none of the mellow. Over and above this, the Wizard PUP provides tones that weren't there with the original.
I, and a few others, have said many times, you won't get better service than from Andy at Wizard. Moreover, he wound me a custom Jazz PUP that holds its own against the Thumper and gives me more growl than than a whole bunch of hungry tigers at feeding time. Nothing against SD, but I'll be going to Andy for PUPs in future.

I put I thumper in my P project, and as I'm a spanner managed to break one coil as I was fitting it (it dropped from the casing and broke the tiny connecting wire, was unable to repair it). Andy offered to repair it and match it to the other half if I sent it back, but as I'm a lazy swine I used half of my old pickup on the bass side and half the thumper on the treble side.

Its still a massive improvement in tone with half a thumper :) here's a soundclip: http://media.putfile.com/Encore-P-bass-sample-1

Obviously, its not hugely accurate as with a complete thumper in it would probably sound totally different  That'll teach me to try DIY!

From what I've heard of SDs you'll get a better pick tone, if you want a NOFX punk sound for example. The Thumpers are a lot darker sounding.

I have no experience of the QP's, but I can honestly say that Andy's pickups are fantastic. I can't recommend him enough.
