No worries Rich. I'll re-string the Stingray tonight and put a new battery in also just to be safe. I'll then put another recording up. Its odd as I have only done one gig and a couple of practises with it. Maybe I have played it more than I think at home. When you boost the bass, do you boost it all the way or just a bit? If full boost is 100% and flat is zero, then my recording I boosted it about 50% and the treble about 25%. Should I do more or less of each or is that about right?

Good idea.

I would offer to do them myself but i think if you do them through the same equipment you used for the others that will be more useful for this thread.
Plus my finger playing stinks.

It sounds really smooth, in a good way. I always associate the jazz tone with either the burpy back pickup or the more aggressive, slightly clanky, everything on full tone. Again this could be the different strings I usually hear, not sure.

Great thread though.

Does anyone know how to record straight into a mac from the rh450?!

I've only just had a listen to these clips, so I'm coming into this a bit late.

To my ears, the ESP with both pickups sound the best and the closest to a vintage jazz bass IMO. The American jazz is probably second and the musicman with the bass boosted third. The Warwick is good, even similar to my Spector legend in terms of tone, slightly sterile sounding, though that could be the strings.

I suppose the thing to bear in mind is that some things sound great on their own, but don't cut it so well with a full band.

To sum up, the ESP does it for me. Really nice selection of basses though and an interesting topic. I wouldn't mind a few other people doing simiar sound comparisons with ACG's, Overwaters etc.

Beautiful! Thanks for that. Love the look of the Fender RI but the ESP looks as if it could go into battle in Bagdad!

You are very welcome. The ESP does have a fair few battle scars. It's seen a few wars over the years but she's a strong cookie :):)

It all depends on the preamp, Michael. On the Stingray I use full bass boost & just a touch of added treble with the mids flat (centred.) On the Status basses I have the treble and bass maxed and the mids flat, but the Status preamp is a totally different animal, running at very different frequencies, so full treble never sounds hissy, just very crisp and sweet. If I ran the Stingray at full treble it would sound terribly hissy! :)
