crez5150
Not quite sure what you mean but I when I'm slapping on a 5 or 4 the technique is pretty much the same..... Damping is on the fretting and the slapping hands
civictiger
you can mute the string from a slap by having 2 points of contact on the string with your left hand, so that when your thumb hits the string it gives a mute sound not an actual note like with one point of contact. if thats what you mean? Oscar South
Almost exclusively mute with my fretting hand when I slap as I use a thumb up/thumb down technique. I use a floating thumb for fingerstyle
gilmour
I'm muting with both hands when I slap, dependent on what I'm doing. I think it's only good to have a range of ways to do things - look at how many ways Rocco mutes when playing fingerstyle.
JTUK
Both, but mostly LH. LH pats and RH soft strikes.. I'll pluck fretted notes from E downwards as the B string is nicely defined for that..or thumb them, it depends. I tend to have a fast thumb action rather than a triplet/pat style..which is more economical. More like Louis Johnson..who I liked to hear more than I liked to see him doing it but slap has moved on so much these days... I find my slap style is more soft groove-orientated than solo orientated, so a solo drop-in for more than a few bars would be a work-out atm..I'd guess.
