iconic Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I know I'm gonna sound like the idiot I am...but what are those doorstop things for that sit below the G string for on these Vibe series....some sort of carrying handle Quote
Pete Academy Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Once upon a time, back in the days before slap and tap, most bass players plucked the strings with their thumb instead of their fingers. The 'rest' was fitted to anchor the finger ends, and so facilitate easier plucking. Or so I believe. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Quote
Pete Academy Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Either that, or Leo Fender had the foresight to make slapping as difficult as possible. Quote

The idea was to hook your fingers underneath it whilst plucking the strings with your thumb. Quote
Chris2112 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Yeah, the only thing I didn't like about my Squier Classic Jazz bass (which was awesome, despite the fact I didn't keep it long) was that the finger rest got in the way when slapping! Quote

It's only held on by a couple of screws. Quote

However, removing it wasn't really neccessary as the bass sounded best with the bridge pickup on solo being plucked. The slap tone was so-so, so it didn't see a lot of that. Quote
Jerry_B Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 That sort of rest comes in quite handy on fretless basses, I've found. Quote
bh2 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 It's a tugbar below the strings, thumbrest above. Quote
