G-bitch
I'd rather spend a little extra and get a rackmount effect and midi foot controller - that said, it makes distortion a little more challenging (would have to be a TC G-Major/Force or something else guitar specific). I've got an old boss VF-1 in a vocal rig which I could quite easily employ as a multi-fx, I shall have to give that a blast some time. Cantdosleepy
I use the line 6 PODxt live, and I have one blank patch in each bank (1C, 2C, 3C, 4C etc) so that it's always a simple tap to bypass. The tuner is a bit more of a hassle.
Silent Fly
Are mutli-effects fundamentally flawed...? Not necessarily - it depends what you expect. Some people never bypass and use a preset with just compression that works as "normal/clean" sound. Usually in the multi-fx units I had I always used preset 0 as "clean" (no effects) and preset 99 (or whatever is the last one) as mute (master=0). In the Zoom B2.1u, if I remember correctly, it is possible to connect an external switch for total bypass. The AdrenaLinn III that I reviewed here allow the user to assign the desidered function to the footswitches so for instance, the right switch can be the bypass. So, providing that lack of direct bypass is a flaw (some would say system feature ), the answer is "some are, some aren't".
Dobb0
I've used an ME50B and the problem you are having has NEVER happened with me tbh. I find it a pretty handy multi-effect.
