orangepeelneil Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Hello everyone , I have an 2006 US made Ampeg SVT AV (The CL but in Anniversary Vintage cloth). It has output taps for 4 ohms or 2 ohms. It's Ideally paired up with the 8x10" SVT cab (4 Ohms) or two SVT-410HE /SVT-15E 8 ohm cabs in parallel (4 Ohms) or the unique and bigger SVT-410HLF (4 Ohms) My query is what happens if I run it with a single 8 Ohm cab? I never have the need for a 8x10" or dual cabs (yet!) I guess it's a question of power reduction with an 8 ohms cab, I've never tried it? could it damage the amp? I've seen loads of bassists on Jools Holland for example, using the SVT heads with a single cab (8 Ohm ones I'm pretty sure) and not the SVT 410HLF (it looks unique with angled back and tilt handle) Any experience or advice apprieciated. Cheers Neil Quote
clauster Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 If you've got a valve power stage (which you have) you MUST match the impedance. If the 4X10 you have i mind has 8Ohm drivers they could be rewired from 2 parallel pairs of drivers in series (totaling 8 ohms) to all in parallel (totalling 2 ohms) Bob's your uncle! Quote
