that's the gayest thing I've heard today..... Dates in April I believe.... See you then! :)
'fraid not...PC is doing the Go West 25th anniversary tour in April, of which i'm not involved.
I was, in fact, referring to the fact that Pete is, and has been for the last few months, on vocal duties for Manfred Mann's Earth Band, of which I am most definitely involved.

One of the perks of my gig is that some weekends I get to see some great names- Go West with full band down here this year at some point.
Band are always kicking- great bass player, great guitarist and Pete Cox's vocals are as good today as they were 20 years ago- amazing.

Loving Scritti Politti too.

I think Prince only released 3 of the best albums of all-time in the '80s.
yes to that Grace Jones /Trevor Horn - Slave to the Rhythm
New Order did some good pop music
Talk Talk
Talking Heads
Kate Bush might have done a corker of a record too
and of course the Style Council
possibly Mr Weler's finest moment

The The and The Smiths

crikey the '80s were chock full of great music.

Watched a film on Saturday that The The did the music for called "Tony". Blimey, what a bleak film that was. Good though in a dark sort of way.
The 80s was my least favourite decade but like anyone, I'm hard pressed not to find stuff I liked at the time. This made me want to be in a band and launched my love of Fender instruments and custom colours
Ha ha! The Dog's D'Amour. Great band!

I went to see them once and ended up getting arrested with the bass player. The cops took the fingerprints off my wrong hands (right hand in the left, left in the right on the form) and gave us cups of tea before letting us go. It was like a carry on film.
I always enjoyed playing along with 'look away' by Big Country.

Anyone had any fun with 'Rio' by Duran Duran ? puzzled me at first until the penny dropped on what was happening

ABC, All Of My Heart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXPH2-yTwuA

Pretty much anything with Trevor Horn behind the desk will have good bass playing and sounds. eg Frankie, Propaganda. Speaking of which...

http://www.youtube.com/v/-fEDeyWQqoE&hl=en_GB&fs=1 - Trev on bass, Alan White (plus AN Other) on drums.

PS. how do I enbed youtube vids in posts?

The 80's for me were a strange cross between pop, such as Simply Red, Wet Wet Wet and the brilliant Go West, the the slightly less pop (at times) of Level 42 and heavy metal, such as Maiden, Motorhead, Saxon, UFO & MSG oh and how could I forget my fav. at the time Van Halen (there's only one VH and that's with DLR!).

So let's start with the best Simply Red tune (other than holding back the years), Money's too tight to mention.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrUB0g8Vjgg

then Wet Wet Wet's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U28qdnx3fiY

we've already had some Go West, but (as they were the first band I noticed putting out special 12inch mixes) here's one of those...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av9PxjufUVk

Ofcourse there's Frankie ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyl5DlrsU90 (I still remember their original version on The Tube).

Then onto the great man himself - Mark King in Level 42

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDcE4clM42Y

Okay I've chosen a pop VH tune because it always makes me smile

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swzh0ngMNJo

Then, not my fav. Maiden tune, but one which is very much of the 80's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geHLdg_VNww

Motorhead was Overkill to me (although from what I see it was in fact released in 79)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geHLdg_VNww (nice recent version, but where's filthy Phil) here we go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOJvtulmEZI

How's about Saxon's Wheels of Steel (first gig I went to was to watch Saxon, unbelievably loud) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McFGsKSJH80 and this vid has the Priest as well :-)

MSG Lost Horizon's, one we used to cover in the heavy rock band I was in back then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22RdpmXWWg8

There was also Howard Jones (very 80's) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE61Bz7IHKg and how's about Nik Kershaw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q711tY76_38

Then there's Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, King http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjWjTRG6uxQ, Paul Young (ofcourse with Pino!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTWt_pKiMl4 oh I could keep going for ages

Ooo, I've come over all nostaligic now.

EDIT: Sorry, I got a little carried away with this post :)
What with all the Huey Lewis, Simply Red etc. stuff here I think I may have ended up in some rather bad parties with you lot in the '80s...
Haha, I have the same view. Some great basslines on the SR stuff though :)

In the '80s when I went to parties it would be with my goth/punk mates. The shindigs were usually at the houses of mates we had who were more 'trendy'. Undoubtedly banter would start about 'turning off that bloody Huey Lewis crap' etc. until sort of compromise was reached. That compromise was usually - and for some strange reason - OMD. Never figured that one out...

What about 'Kadjagoogoo' Too Shy?
......some great music already mentioned, went to see New Order in the early/mid eighties at Preston Guild Hall, half way through the set a massive fight broke out and I mean MASSIVE, the band went off for about ten minutes until it stopped. Me and my girl had gone on the motorbike so we had our helmets, thought we would need them at the gig at one point. Ah..good memories, perhaps Hooky remembers it?

The first three Simply Red albums are sheer class.
