skankdelvar
Frankly, I never much liked RD's. Until I saw this pair: A bit more interesting than the reasonably ubiquitous Natchrul finish, IMO.

dmz
I used to have one just like the one on top - yes - it was a tad heavy - comets and asteroids used to get deflected off their natural orbits round the sun. With that Moog circuitry on board you could destroy amplifiers just by bringing it into the same room as the amplifier - the on-board compressor was a beast ! Happy daze - not that my shoulder would agree with you......

EssentialTension
Didn't Robert Moog design the active electronics? And didn't Entwistle have some interest until he decided he didn't like the bass?
neepheid
I think they're (RD Artist) awesome and it is an ambition of mine to own one, one day. A later model with the independent switches for expansion/compression and bright mode.

Bassassin
Second on my list of desirable Gibbos, following Victory Artist or Custom. Such a tragedy these were post-JapCrap copy era, which means the only cheap & shonky option for us Gyppos is this: http://www.cheesyguitars.com/disco.html Jon. It was initially touted a the John Entwistle 'Spider bass' but he soon lost interest, and the product was never officially linked to him Theres some info on the design of this guitar here, although I've got considerable updates to this page that I haven't added in yet http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/RDartist_timeline.php

I wouldn't get your hopes up about the circuit, it's been surpassed a million times over by everything that came after it. The on-board compression/expansion was pretty useless as you had no way to attenuate it and the two modes were dependent on the pickup selection, neck unit for compression and bridge unit for expansion. The bright mode was the "less good" switch, press it for an instant depreciation in tone! It was a beast to play, could get a great Ric sound out of it but tbh i wouldn't have another, i bought the Corvette and never really played the RD again Only got under £500 for mine too
