Clarky72 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Hello everybody, my name is Steve and I'm an alcoholic, there, I've said it.... oh crap, wrong forum... So, I've been playing since I was 16. My lovely folks bought me a blue glitter tree trunk for my 16th birthday, disguised as a Marlin Sidewinder. Looking back it was a bitch to play, but it got me on the road to learning so a massive thanks to the olds! I play for a number of reasons... 1) when we were kids my mate got a 6 string before me so for our first band i had to play bass... 2) i always thought the bass players were the cooler guys in the bands 3) bass gave me good strong fingers and great rhythm, which the missus loves! I play bass because of these legends: Bernard Edwards, Gene Simmons, John Taylor (yes, that chap from Duran Duran). Through the late 80s and early 90s I played in a few glam bands, Motley Crue/Kiss/LA Guns style. We did get signed up to Sony but lost the deal when we lost our singer who had a Mr.T style fear of flying and refused to go and do the Japanese Tour, laughable now and very Spinal Tap-esque! Did the obligatory haircut and plaid shirt for the grunge era soon after that. Went on to do more rock bands until in the late 90s when we all realised we really never were going to be famous, and if we did we'd end up being another Nickelback (old men who think they're still 21 when they break and are hated the world over) which was enough to split the band up right there and then! Since then I've played in a covers band or two and for the last 7 years am happily thumping out some tunes in Hustler. clicky thingy here I've had a lot of crap, and some really good gear too... Basses: Marlin Sidewinder Hohner Jack Bass Steinberger L2 (pointless and stupid in my opinion, no offence to anyone who owns and loves theirs) Aria Pro II SB Elite which I wish I'd never sold, i miss you you sexy red beast! Charvel PJ pointy headstock 80s glam tight pants and cowboy boots bass Squier Precision SGC Bass Collection 301 - yuk Ibanez Iceman Fender Precision Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Gibson Thunderbird Fender Jazz Fender Jazz Fender Jazz.....and more of the same ever since. Amps: Marshall Bass 10 Marhsall Bass 30 - ooh 20 watts bigger! Marshall Integrated Bass System 250W with Marshall 4x10 - total utter crap Peavey Series 400 with Peavey 4x10 Hartke HA500 Rack with Peavey 4x10 Ashdown MAG 300with Ashdown 1510HX Ashdown EVO II 500 with Ashdown 1510HX Ampeg SVT Skunkworks with Ampeg 8x10" Ampeg BA500 Combo - an absolute beauty, and lighter than the monster Ampeg Future Wants: MusicMan Stingray 72 Jazz - May 72 if possible (for no reason other than its when i was born) Philip Kubicki Ex-Factor 4 Peavey JT-84 Liberator Aria Pro II SB Elite-II Well, thats me, cheers! The bands back then were Crystal, Silver Bullets and the one that got signed was Bratpack, we did the regular London gig scene, Marquee, Royal Standard etc... we played with Rich Rags, Pleasure Victims, Gunfire Dance, Spit Like This, Scarlet Tears, and loads of others who's names escape me now! After that I did Endorfiends with the guys from Kill City Dragons & Lord of The New Church. How about you? Steve Quote
Cat Burrito Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Steve - Go west to Bath and I played in SkinTrade. Bratpack I know well because Andy Town & I shared a flat together after SkinTrade / Dogsbody ended and we did a band together called The Ex-Boyfriends. I think we played with Endorfiends the night after Diana died in London but I was ill so don't recall it to much. Needless to say I know all those bands you mention and I suspect I know a lot of the same people. Left it all behind a long time ago and the the last 10yrs has been more of an Americana thing for me but I look back fondly. Tim Quote

Small world eh!.. I still speak to Andy, I've been meaning to pop along to one of his Daves or 'Amptons gigs for a while, we just keep gigging the same nights! We must know so many of the same people... I was just looking through your gear, you've got some lovely stuff there. Steve Quote
