Musicman20
Thinking about the whole combo flexibility and ease of use, its pretty clear when I think about it that if you have a flexible amp head (eg Shuttle or RH450) that has headphone in, ipod in, etc etc, then there is no point in getting a combo. Why? Well yes, the smaller speakers/cabinet allows easier practice, but you may as well put the money towards a really nice 1x12...eg Berg AE112/HT112ER, and build on that. Just thinking out loud! Id never be able to even practice with quiet drummers with most the practice amps here, but a Berg 112 (or other brand) would hold down quiet rehearsals. More money I know....hahaha. largo
I'm saving for the Ibanez Promethean P5110 combo as a home practice/backup amp. Not cheap, however it ticks all the boxes for me. Small dimensions, 13" x 13" x 14" or something close to that. It has a decent power handling so I can use it as backup amp should the worst happen, it has DI out for PA support if I need it, has headphones out and MP3/Aux input for playing along. The amp can actually be removed very easily (4 screws) and used standalone so if anything were to happen to my gigging amp I will either take the amp and have 500W into my 4x10 cab or take the whole combo and still have enough power to be heard over a drummer. Happy Jack
And you're using it to play virtual bass?
Delberthot
For years I've been using a guitar combo purely for the fact that they're not designed to output huge low end which is what annoys the neighbours. You can get a decent tone out of it at home levels. If I never played live then I daresay I'd look for something fancy but my little Meridian 40w guitar combo is perfect for practicing at home. Bilbo
You can also find a s/h GK MB150 for £250 if you look around.
LawrenceH
I've not heard the RX but I was very impressed with a Roland Cube 30 which a pro-player friend had for teaching (and actually used for small jazz gigs!). It had a solid, articulate tone that was varied in a worthwhile way by the modelling options. I was the opposite of impressed with the Ashdown Perfect 10 which I got in a deal with a bass I bought. The tone was deader and flabbier than a stuffed goose, nowhere near what you can achieve with even their budget Electric Blue range.
alanbass1
Electro music is selling the Cub (Phil Jones) for £296 - now that has got me thinking: http://www.electromusic.co.uk/Phil-Jones-B...Cub.html?page=
franzbassist
Electro music is selling the Cub (Phil Jones) for £296 - now that has got me thinking: http://www.electromusic.co.uk/Phil-Jones-B...Cub.html?page=1
I spotted that as well, but it's actually the guitar version they have for that price. Us bass players have to pay £100 more!
rjs
What about 1 of these http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/index.ph...-combo-issue-
franzbassist
But then I noticed in my Bass Direct email that PJB have a new small combo on the market, The Cub. Looks very nice, great spec and immediately GAS starts to rise. I could afford it if I wanted. A sensible person would point out these 4 things:

You've never heard the thing
It's too underpowered to gig and it's too overpowered for bedroom practicing
There really is nothing wrong with what you've got
It costs £400 - think what else you could do with £400...
At the moment the sensible person is winning...
I now have one of these and reviewed it here.
