bassjase128 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Hi all , I plan on being here (as a visitor/member to this site) for a long time, so im gonna make my intro a long one. Ive been playing bass for maybe 10 years using books and friends to write tabs, just enough to play a few songs here and there. Then i got into bass big time and decided to go for lessons for just over a year. When my dear wife gave birth to our 3rd child I ended up selling both my electric bass guitars to get by (origionaly this would be temporary) and left myself with just an accoustic bass (which i dont get on with too well) I now have the bug again but unfortuately not much money so I plan on buying a battered up old bass for now and plan (long term plan) on building myself a bass MM bongo stylie over the course of this year. I have the tools and the books hopefully the contacts to get me the wood, Im just gonna struggle with the electronics (can someone point me in the direction of bongo electic diagrams and spares to make this pretty please) Some info on pick up quality i.e. can you get cheap pick ups that sound good? I really love the double $$ warwick pick ups or MM chunky HH's WOW. So i will probably be asking a world record number of questions over the next year so brace yourselves!!!! if i can get enough money together i really fance that shuker course it looks great, can someone tell me how good these basses sound when you get them home! If anyone is interested, my music preferences are aimed in the direction of rock, punk and goth fav groups are spear of destiny/theatre of hate, the sisters of mercy, new model army, the cure, stiff little fingers, killing joke, oceansize bass hero's: stan stammers, stuart morrow, flea, stu hamm and simon gallup. Fav bass : withought a doubt the greatest thing since donner kebabs with chilli is the ECCLESHALL 335 STYLE BASS this more curvy and sexy than pam anderson, it is a gift from the bass gods, but as with pam anderson i presume i with never get to fondle one !! to expensive oh to be rich! The musicman bongo comes in a close second, warwick corvette $$ and a stingray are all top choice for me. oh i could go on forever, but i will stop boring you all and say thanks for any assistance for any future questions answered by your kind selves thanks for listening jase Quote

EdwardHimself Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Hello there. I live in bev which as you may know is a few miles due north of your location. Sorry for the shameless plug everyone but i see your plight about a decent sounding and relatively inexpensive musicman style pickup am selling an EMG MMTW pickup which is a musicman style humbucker and pretty nice and punchy for £45 + shipping which probably wouldn't be that expensive lolz. PM if you're interested. Otherwise if you're looking for a very cheap MM style pickup then hull's very own axesrus sell one for £21: http://www.axesrus.com/AxeBassPup.html now i'm not just saying this but the EMG MMTW sells for over £70 new so although it's a bit more expensive you are getting a lot more pickup for the money. I mean don't get me wrong though, i did buy one of the cheaper axesrus pickups and i thought it was okay actually. one other thing to consider though is that EMGs are also easier to wire up if you're not experienced with the electronics. As for shuker basses i wouldn't know myself but they are custom so i think it's unlikely you wouldn't like the sound of it, plus they are yorksire made which is always a plus EH.
