You know the time you first solder a project together, and it works, and it sounds great, and it makes up for all the "oh crap why did I make it in such a small enclosure?" moments...
Prunes and Custard in a Gorva M45 (5mm or so wider than 1590A) with top jacks. Printed by Gojira...
I think I've missed the wire earthing the input when off, and the bass cut switch might actually be on in the down position... (but it's fairly subtle)
But I'm pretty happy with that.

Camera died before I could show what top jacks look like... It's also tiny.

Got parts and enclosures for another 5 :D

Oh and after 10+ years my solder sucker broke.

That looks mighty! If you decide you're going to do a run I might be interested!

Great work! Would love to compare one to my original!

My subscription ran out last week so I can’t respond to that!

I was honestly surprised the various stuff I could do with this pedal, so recorded a short tone demo. I never really wanted a fuzz pedal before, now I'm glad I built one 😅 I also wish I could play the guitar.

While I'm still building the wee batch of prunes and custards, my test enclosure is laying about... and starting to think what I could build to go in it....
The idea was "I don't use distortion/fuzz much so if I'm going to make one lets shrink it down as much as possible...

Realistically 3 pots and two switches are close to the limit of feasibility, actually you could fit more

So far contenders are....

  • Big muff, Russian style or Bluebeard.
  • Mayonnaise Fuzz/Kewpie (also Muff variant
  • Zvek Super Hard On with the clipping diodes mods (oh AKA JPTR Jive)
  • Bass Klon
  • Mastodon - make the pots fit somehow
  • Brassmaster - would be biggest challenge but technically the transformer should fit
  • Broughton High pass/low pass (not a fuzz)

my assumptions

between my ss/bs and hx stomp I dont need drive

if I can buy it its' easier to do that, which is whyI scored out the Klone- A mosky black rat is simpler, and cheaper than making one! Obviously if I could get a brass master or something this small there's size benefits over the behringer one.

It's gotta be something cool enough I can't get elsewhere... Like the prunes and custard. I've got a hankering for a BMP - but will it be that much better than the models on the HX?

At the moment the Brassmaster (for technical challenge) and SHO with mods/Jive (to see what the fuss is about)are probably the most likely, High pass/low pass would be useful ....

Any suggestions?

Also reserve the right to change my mind and not make anything, stick one of the prunes and custards in the enclosure!

Having just built the Mastodon clone last week, I really don't think you can fit that in the 1590A-ish enclosure!

I wanted to add an extra BLEND pot in my 1590B and just could not fit it. Even without it, it was a very tight fit for me, I am a noob though.

Sure, you can try getting rid of the bass switch (just leave it always on!), and the RELAX/PUSH as well (as that also can be safely left on PUSH always-on) to gain some space, but I still think you'd have to go narrower than the actual Fuzzdog PCB I used. Maybe you can wire the pots instead of soldering them on board, and flip the whole board 90 degrees...

@BabyBlueSound the way you would do it is 9mm pots, and smd parts - I think you could have 3 across in one row - whether it’s worth it is another question!! I think there possibly more pcb space to be won if you used relay bypass (facing up) and a smaller momentary fs (but that’s more complex than I wanted to try with the above)

I've got my enclosure, beautifully packed...

Of course, now I've got it it looks far too small, despite me knowing the dimensions of the two things going in it 😉

Great things in small packages.

You’d want to connect D to Qbar I think. Also if your footswitch is only a single-pole switch with one set of contacts, you can’t necessarily just connect this circuit across them without first checking the voltage and polarity that the amp puts across the open switch.

It's been a little while since I used 74 series ICs, but IIRC if an input pin is not connected to anything then it's taken as logic 1 (presumably there's a pull-up resistor inside). Saves connecting preset and clear.

I put a TurboRAT in a Warhammer Land Raider, just finished it today. Many hours of work and totally worth it!

Ooh, I didn't realise that the Jive is just a SHO with clipping, adding that to my project list!
