pete.young
Spent this afternoon finishing off the Pedalparts TS808 kit that I got from Bigwan . Here's the circuit: Apologies, a bit out of focus. Guts and finished pedal: The kit didn't include a battery clip or a stereo socket as per the instructions, and I can see why now: there isn't room in the enclosure for a battery. Other than that, no problems putting it together, everything went like a dream. Thanks to Tom for helping me with the info about pots. pete.young
That bit sounds like an NE1 at least doesn't it ?
I'm getting a bit confused here :-) I'm not quite sure where the NE1 fits into the scheme of things, or what elements of that circuit are common to the basses. The original Nathan East Signature bass had controls for bass boost/cut, treble boost/cut and a 3 position mid selector (and also blend and vol). The BBNE2 has a 3-band EQ (Bass, Treble, Mids all boost/cut) plus an additional mid-cut frequency control and a switch to turn it on and off. The NE1 pedal seems to be a combination of the two. There is a circuit for the NE1 pedal and a veroboard design produced by paulatlabs, and I think Max at SilentFly published some mods to it in the Affiliates forum, but I've not seen a design for either of the bass guitar pre-amps. Sibob
Very cool Pete! Using it for bass? Did you mod the component values at all? Si
Sibob
Forgot to post my Rat clone here: Really happy with how this turned out sound wise, Madbeans Rat clone with Ruetz mod and diode selection. The actual PCB was the second I ever soldered, just been hanging around for a while in it's enclosure waiting to be finished. As such, I was a bit gung-ho and drilled the enclosure before I realised that the board accepted mounted switch & pots. Oh well, fairly neat apart from that The paintjob is a mottled/crackled look, very cool, hard to catch in photo Si
pete.young
Thanks Si - not sure what I'm going to use it for, it was one of those things where the journey was more important than arriving at the destination. I might plug the bouzouki into it and see if I can do a PIL impression. It's the standard kit with no mods: both buffers and one diode for symmetric clipping. paul_5
Just finished my first valve O/D tonight. Currently it looks a lot like an octopus, but it sounds brilliant. Got a blend control too, so I can still keep some clean low end in there too...
paul_5
Boxed it up today and looking forward to putting it in place tomorrow. The idea is this: Using the crossover on the back of my SWR SM400 head I intend to send the high frequencies (350Hz or so and up) to the valve O/D and leave the fundamentals (up to E at the edge of the fretboard) untouched. We shall see...

paul_5
It doesn't look like mush, just an aluminium faceplate with 3 knobs on it in my rack. Sounds like this though... https://soundcloud.com/paul_5/sets/valve-o-d-unit Edited November 6, 2013 by paul_5

Sibob
Finished the PedalParts Bass BB Pre last night. Sounds great, slightly less bass than the Xotic, although still more than enough to not lose any from your signal. More gain than the Xotic and not as compressed to my ears: [IMG]http://i39.tinypic.com/ixb5i1.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> [IMG]http://i43.tinypic.com/288uy3b.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> Si

pete.young
Just read his comments about using a heat sink for transistors and diodes when soldering. Whoops. I seem to have got away with that one until now. What do people do for this, clip a croc clip onto the wire or something?
paul_5
I've never bothered - if you're using lead solder it melts at a lower temperature than the lead free stuff. I tend to socket ICs though, just to be on the safe side. Preparation is key though; make sure the component is in place before soldering it, that way the iron's not heating it for any longer than it needs to. Sibob
I've never used a heatsink. With diodes and transistors also, I'll solder one leg, then do something else, then do the others. Just breaks up the heat to the component. I'll also socket all ICs, most transistors, and some diodes Si
Bloc Riff Nut
This is quite some thread, very interesting reading, quite addictive actually. I've got to say that some of the finished products are quite remarkable. I doff my cap to you good sirs. Anyway, after visiting some of the sites you chaps recommended I seem to have slipped and ordered some pedals On their way to not-so-sunny Holland are, a Fat Furry Freak Fuzz, an Acti Boost and a Big Fat Balls Envelope Filter. A bit of hands-on GAS can't be a bad thing, right! They are all full kits, so they shouldn't cause too many problems Just one question, does anyone here use a heat sink ? Spelling edit Edited November 8, 2013 by Bloc Riff Nut
DolganoFF
100% passive, no battery required multy-capacitor tone control (not far from what Stellartone does I guess). 9 caps from 470 pF to 0.2 mF give it very wide tonal variety! Bloc Riff Nut
A handy tone pedal, will you be adding graphics/paint to the enclosure? I quite like the aluminium industrial look. I think I'll keep my pedals minimalist as far as paint-jobs go, but I will need to mark the knob functions. Not quite sure how to do that without a proper paint-job and text
DolganoFF
I'll let it bare I think.
