Pickup Issues

Hello. A few times over the past month I've picked up my guitar (Shine Extreme Series WEB845) in the morning to have a play and the sound has come out really distorted. I just put the guitar down and come back to it in a hour and it's usually fine. As such I assumed the problem had something to do with the cold night beforehand. Anyway I just had the same problem yet it is not going away and it's been around for a lot longer than normal.

I'm not sure what the problem is, I think it might be something to do with the pickups. Any ideas? Am I looking at replacing something?

To help you here is a recording I just made (Home recording studios are great!). This was made using a DI straight from the bass.

Ahh - I was misled by the link to the active bass on your previous thread about it - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=77569

Yeah, slightly interesting wording on the webpage, that is the bass though.

If I were to replace the pickups I presume any jazz-style 5-string ones would be suitable? Any recommendations?

Could be a duff solder joint somewhere along the line, they can cause weirdness like distortion, phantom rustling noises & intermittent cutting out. Give 'em the once over, all the joints should be smooth & quite shiny - if there's one that looks dull or even slightly crystalline that may be the culprit.
