silentbob Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi, just wondered if anybody had any experience of these pups. Quote
Stewart Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Got a 'Vintage Hot' P pickup in one of mine - a very dark and rumbly bottom end. I often think about replacing it, but never have... I'm pretty sure I'd miss it. Quote
slobluesine Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 they get great reviews, particularly the Rickenbacker replacement ones, i have a couple of Humbuckers that Aaron makes for Double Bass, sounds great sound and not expensive Quote
BassBod Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 There are different types - the WD ones are Korean (?) made to Kent's design, but both Kent and son Aaron make "bespoke" pickups in many many different styles. I've used all variations - all good, although the WD ones haven't got the "finess" of more pricey versions. Quote
essexbasscat Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 went to the workshop last year. They stock tons of bits and pieces and at that time, made pickups to requested spec, if that's what you want. Read really good reviews too. just my 2p's worth T Quote
lozbass Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I've had quite a few and have been impressed with all (various configurations/types but all KA rather than WD). Prices are decent too. A good alternative - and another custom wind option - is Wizard Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I have a pair of the jazz lipstick ones in my jazz, an alnico precision one in my fretless P - great pickups. I also have a couple of 70s musicmasters with Kent Armstrong dual blade humbucker strat pickups which sound much better than the stock pickups. Quote

JTUK Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I use KA in a bass and have had various before. What I like about them is that you can get custom winds, if you know what sort of sound you are looking for One tip I adhere to.. more winds may mean more oomph, but then can over-power the character of the sound. So less winds, by far and a thicker wire would be my starting point. But you can talk it over with them and they'll do it, IME Quote
