Jamesemt
I've finally got my guitar room sorted and have a spare soundcard and laptop. Is there a PC equivalent of a Tascam bass trainer? Cheers
Eight
What exactly are the features you're after? I don't have a Bass Trainer so am not quite sure what they do beyond the basic idea of letting you play along to an mp3 and slowing it down. I suspect there's at least a combination of bits of software I can recommend do accomplish the same end goal.

Maybe something to change pitch and a nice software preamp
arsenic
There is a piece of free software call Best Practice. Runs on a PC, allows you to load an MP3, change pitch without changing the speed, or speed without changing pitch. Not too sure about a repeat function, as I havn't got it installed at the moment due to just installing W7 Available Here Sorry - didn.t notice the bit about a pre-amp, may need another piece of software to run the bass through Edited February 28, 2010 by arsenic
bassicinstinct
I've used Best Practice myself. Marvelous!!
Eight
Transcribe! is a very useful tool for this sort of thing also - http://www.seventhstring.com/xscribe/overview.html - easy to use and not expensive (although not free). However, with regard to pre-amp i.e. running the bass through the computer. That can be a whole world of pain... For practice, I actually do the opposite. i.e. Take the PC output into a little Behringer mixer and out to some studio monitors/headphones. Have been known to run the bass through there too - either direct, via a pedal, or taking the amp's out.
Stingray5
+1 for Best Practice. And yes, it does also have an A>B type repeat facility.
Jamesemt
Thanks for that - will give them a look
