Inchgower Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi, Thought I'd better pop in and say hello, as I've been lurking for a few days, picking up lots of useful info - what a fantastic site! Played a Hofner Violin bass in a (very) amateur band in Worcester back in the 70s & early 80s - we never went anywhere but it was great fun. Did everything from Pink Floyd to broadside ballads via the Bonzo Dogs. Then other interests gradually took over, and TBH I didn't miss it for years. Up here there's a very healthy folk/traditional* live music scene, and now I'm getting itchy fingers. No equipment at the moment, but a friend is lending me his Hohner Cricket Bat for a few weeks, once I can get past the snow and onto the road. * with a very liberal interpretation eg Simon & Garfunkel, early Beatles, Buddy Holly, Eagles etc Quote
sdgrsr400 Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi, welcome. I know Moray well for personal reasons, and there's a good scene there. Often good stuff on at the Universal Hall, Findhorn: http://www.findhorn.org/uhall/ . Also I know a very good instrument and valve amp technician not too far from Forres. I recommend the food (and beer) at the Kimberley pub in Findhorn village. Enjoy Moray! Quote
neepheid Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Welcome aboard, fellow NE Scotland dweller Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Welcome indeed. I'm touring around Scotland at the minute, so I sympathize with the snow delays. I had a much fun day driving to Ullapool from Stranraer the other day, with the A9 being closed. I'm playing at FifeStock tomorrow and Wednesday if you're around by any chance. Quote
Inchgower Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 Thanks all for the welcome - I think I'll like it here. Tried to keep the intro concise, and ended up not indicating I've been in Moray for a few years now, but thanks for the info sdgrsr400 - good to know there's a technician in the Forres area. And yes, agreed about the Kimberley. Don't get over there too often, as I'm not far from the eastern border with Aberdeenshire - near Buckie. Any other good watering hole suggestions always welcome. Ah, the dreaded A9, Gareth - thought I was going to spend the night there on 5 Jan - just made it to Inverness. FifeStock is an awful long way from here, and sorry I'll not be around on Saturday either when you're at Kinloss, which is quite near. Shame, as I do like Irish singers. <wave> Hi neepheid! </wave> Quote
