Hi all,

Just starting out and need to get a tuner nd metronome. I see some tuners are available with a built in metronome..are these good or is it better to buy separates?

I need to watch budget as a student and the Boss TU-80 seems like a good deal, online for £20, Any other recommendations?

cheers! :)

The TU-80 is a fine tuner (I use one myself) but the metronome on it is pretty horrible IMO- nasty harsh sound, and the lack of controls given the large number of functions makes it a bit fiddly to program. I use a seperate metronome (Korg MA-30) which is much easier and sounds less obonxious.

Hi,
Good to see someone starting out the rite way , Korg tuners and metronomes are pretty good,I too use them myself . Be aware that the calibration of tuners is not always
that accurate- for sure they'll get you reasonably in tune ,but if your playing in an ensemble its sometimes a good idea to all tune from the one tuner. From time to time I recalibrate my tuner with a tuning fork I know to be good, its never far out -just far enough to make a difference (3-4 cents).
