Beedster
I've let myself down, my family down, and most of all, you lot down.. Yes, I just learnt the bass line to "Dont stop believing".... DAMN YOU GLEE!!
It's one of the great tracks mate. Glee? The fact that a track's used in a commecrial, TV show, or sample doesn't in any way reduce it's quality.
budget bassist
yeah i learnt that bassline a while ago, it's a great song, just a shame glee covered it, i've not heard it though and i don't plan to.

Golchen
No shame playing Journey in my book, and certainly not that classic. I'm working on the keyboard intro myself (between other things). It sounds simple enough but it's a bit more tricky than I thought.
Jarhead
Great song, I'm playing it at my birthday gig in a couple of weeks, but apparently we're 'Jazzing' it up a bit, could be interesting... Zach
RhysP
One of my favourite basslines to play ever! Great song too.
Mike
Not sad in the slightest. No-one should be snobbish about music. Play what you love and love what you play!
Tinman
No apologies necessary there for sure. Great song, great line. Enjoy
Sean
I play that bassline every Saturday night and some Fridays and it's just great. Nothing sad about that at all and if you can get near the tone in this video below, it's just fabalas, mun.
Marvin
Hate the GLEE cover, truly nauseating. Not a big fan of Journey but I certainly do not hate the original, it's ok.
lazzer
awesome line, I love playing it, keyboard intro & all.............
EskimoBassist
It's a great song! I have no shame in admitting that I can play it.

Eight
I'm going to fly in the face of this thread and say "shame on you!".
Buzz
The bassline in the Journey original is actually pretty good, no shame in learning that, it's a good song intro as well. The Glee version isn't bad either, good thing I like acapella otherwise I think I would go mad hearing their version of the intro again and again in pubs/clubs recently. Delberthot
Got an email from the singer on Thursday to learn it in C for the gig on Saturday night We actually pulled it off really well. I don't have a fretless to get that honky sound so I use my Boss OC-2 & BF-3 and the sound was massive through my Terror Bass and Trace 4x12"
JakeBrownBass
I'm going to fly the fag for Glee!!! Think its brilliant

Steve Perry has a hell of a voice.
Higgie
Funnily enough I've just done the exact same thing for a dep I'm doing! I think it's a pretty cool tune, don't feel ashamed
Golchen
Anyone else think that Neal Schon kind of bodges his intro?
allighatt0r
I would love to play and sing this song. I need to get my head round doing it in a different key first. No way could I squeak my way through it in the original key
Johngh
The original is an absolute classic. The Glee version is Sh*te. It's yet another example of the pop machine taking a classic tune and ruining it. Were thinking of covering it. got a female singer so range isn't an issue
tombboy
I don't have a fretless to get that honky sound so I use my Boss OC-2 & BF-3 and the sound was massive through my Terror Bass and Trace 4x12"
AFAICR it wasn't recorded or played live on a fretless. Ovation Magnum, push the mids and a touch of chorus. Think honkey stingray tone with some 'colour'.
cetera
No shame at all.... Journey - classic band of superb musicians/singers/songwriters Don't Stop Believin - a superb song & a fine example of its genre... Play it loud AND proud!
