I've let myself down, my family down, and most of all, you lot down..

Yes, I just learnt the bass line to "Dont stop believing"....

DAMN YOU GLEE!![/quote]

It's one of the great tracks mate. Glee? The fact that a track's used in a commecrial, TV show, or sample doesn't in any way reduce it's quality.

No shame playing Journey in my book, and certainly not that classic.

I'm working on the keyboard intro myself (between other things). It sounds simple enough but it's a bit more tricky than I thought.

I play that bassline every Saturday night and some Fridays and it's just great. Nothing sad about that at all and if you can get near the tone in this video below, it's just fabalas, mun.

The bassline in the Journey original is actually pretty good, no shame in learning that, it's a good song intro as well. The Glee version isn't bad either, good thing I like acapella otherwise I think I would go mad hearing their version of the intro again and again in pubs/clubs recently.

Got an email from the singer on Thursday to learn it in C for the gig on Saturday night

We actually pulled it off really well.

I don't have a fretless to get that honky sound so I use my Boss OC-2 & BF-3 and the sound was massive through my Terror Bass and Trace 4x12"

The original key is ridiculous for your average guy. Steve Perry has a hell of a voice.

Funnily enough I've just done the exact same thing for a dep I'm doing! I think it's a pretty cool tune, don't feel ashamed :)

The original is an absolute classic. The Glee version is Sh*te. It's yet another example of the pop machine taking a classic tune and ruining it.
Were thinking of covering it. got a female singer so range isn't an issue :)

AFAICR it wasn't recorded or played live on a fretless.
Ovation Magnum, push the mids and a touch of chorus. Think honkey stingray tone with some 'colour'.

No shame at all....

Journey - classic band of superb musicians/singers/songwriters

Don't Stop Believin - a superb song & a fine example of its genre...

Play it loud AND proud!
