Thats how tight it was. We normally share a brain, but on Friday it appeared to have taken an early holiday. I dunno, maybe I just wasnt feeling the vibe last night? Been a busy week I suppose, looking back. Anyway, played at The Rose on King's Road in Maidenhead. Lovely pub and lovely Landlady/Landlord, but I never want to play there again. The band area is a corridor down the side of the bar and away from the open area of the pub. So, being a corridor (I exaggerate only slightly) we were literally playing in a line facing the opposite wall. Right next to the toilets and the door to the smoking area so constantly having to twist and turn to let these people past. Uncomfortable, badly paid but sounded great. I played like a dog on a couple of tracks, especially house of fun, but the band were a nice bunch and very appreciative and invited me back for more gigs so that was cool. Great atmosphere, people dancing on the jetty and on all the charter boats returning to harbour, even got a text from a friend fishing on the other side of the harbour saying that "Can't explain" sounds great. [/quote] Special invitation only Last nights gig was in a stunning setting. A wedding in the Purbeck Hills of Dorset very close to a little town called Bridport. I stopped en route to the gig a couple of times as the views were so amazing. On arrival we had drinks and food ready - the hosts were fantastic. We started the first dance tune on a nod from the best man but the bride was nowhere to be seen. We just kept playing until she turned up. The first set was going well until the bacon butties were served and the weather was so lovely that it was hard to get people to stay in the barn to listen to the music. Second set was a different story as we cranked up the disco burners and got the dance floor filled. 3 encores at the end and dished out a load of cards. We let the sound go a bit mush in the last couple of numbers but all in all, decent enough. lurksalot Posted May 27, 2012 Share Posted May 27, 2012 Local pub gig for me , at the Shamrock in Buckley , it was very quiet when we set up so we were a bit concerned , but by the end the place was bouncing , we were chuffed with this gig as we changed the set list on the fly when they started dancing and kept them up. WE have played there before but the Landlord was very complimentary this time and reckons we have stepped up a notch , some of the local bands he rated us against are really good and well regarded, so a good night was had by all . Wedding ran 90 minutes late, our 2 hour set ended up being slashed to 45 minutes - we spent twice as long getting set up and packing down! Never known a venue so precious about the floor and walls! We couldn't prop anything up, and they brought down loads of mats to line the route to the stage so that the wheels on our gear wouldn't scratch the floor! And to top it there was this interfering Nazi of a manager that wouldn't leave us alone! AAAGGGGHHHH!!!!! DJ was a nice bloke though, and he had a hot daughter... neepheid Posted May 28, 2012 Share Posted May 28, 2012 Saturday's gig was a good un - we were playing at Macduff Arts Centre, a lovely former church, a great sounding room. Privileged to be on the same bill as Martin Stephenson, who was terrific, really enjoyed his set. The audience had thinned a little when it came to our turn (understandable, some people were there with kids), but those who stayed danced about like eejits Highlight of the night for me was me starting the bass riff to Bring Down the Birds to a resounding and hearty "YEAH!" from someone in the audience I took the Yamaha BB614 for a spin that night, and it sounded great through my RedSub head and Zoot cab - no PA support required - and got compliments from the sound guy about it too. After a successful pub gig in Fowey on friday night, on Saturday we played Woodrock for the third time-this is the gig we actually formed the band to play. Woodrock is a sort of mini festival/private party in some woods, miles from anywhere. One of Cornwall's best-kept secrets. A really well-constructed stage sits in a clearing in the middle of the woods, the only way there apart from a long walk is via a 1962 Mercedes Unimog with trailer full of straw bales, down a track which few other vehicles could negotiate. Our drummer and I first went there with a mate from work in the late 90's-we had such a great time we said 'we gotta form a band and play here!' Finally in 2005 that's what we did, a couple of years later we got on the bill for the first time. This was our third appearance, second on the bill between some young lads who have never been there before, and another local band who are very similar to us before our female singer left-straight-down-the-line, something-for-everyone party band. We were definitely the nasty dirty rock band on the bill. The headliners let everyone use their PA, which belonged to their bass player, who did a cracking job, we were delighted with the sound. Had a fantastic time, definitely our best appearance there yet, everyone up and dancing and then we had the rest of the evening to ourselves. Sadly after a beautiful day the rain came in late in the evening, slightly marring the headliners' second set and putting the mockers on any post-gig socialising/drinking back at the campsite-we spent a damp night in our leaking tent! Thankfully the sun came out again in the morning and dried everything out, and we had a pleasant morning cooking breakfast and hanging out in the sun before riding the Unimog down to pick up our gear. The organisers are already talking about having us back next year for an all-emergency services lineup with another local band who are all firemen (we're all ambulance staff). Good time had by all. Top night of rock and roll on that bill; we definitely had the advantage of being the local lads, with a great crowd along - and I think all the bands had a good night; and kudos to openers RFG, we enjoyed the banter and would definitely play with you guys again! Naturally, I took up my shy and retiring position on stage left... and spot the splinting for the Carpal Tunnel! Think I just about passed it off as some rock and roll accessory! First song... We went down well and there were some top notch musicians there for us to enjoy either side of our 'set' too. Any Cardiff people get down there on a Thursday - it's a great night! A mixed bag of bands that also included the very wonderful [url="http://plaisir.bandcamp.com/"]Plaisir[/url] and many thanks to their bassist who let me use his rather nice Ampeg rig. First outing for our new guitarist who after a only a handful of rehearsals played fantastically, and she really got into the whole Terrortone vibe. The venue (Chameleon) is a strange one - café/bar above a card shop that you get to down a poorly sign-posted alley. The bands play in a rather small room with a ridiculously large PA system and bizarre semi-pornographic abstract paintings on the walls. Had one or two nervous moments when Mr Venom was scaling the PA stacks and everything looked like it might come crash down, other than that it was all good.
