My band [url="http://thoseamongstusarewolves.com/"]Those Amongst Us Are Wolves[/url] played with AK/DK and Codes In The Clouds - a post rock/electronica night of spectacular music. Great crowd - BRILLIANT promoters Chris and Mike operating under the Twitter name @GoodsoulPromo. If you're looking for promoters who don't want you to bring all your mates or sell tickets up front and still manage to draw a great crowd, then get in touch with these guys. lurksalot Posted June 1, 2014 Share Posted June 1, 2014 Good pub gig last night , a reasonable crowd , but not mahoosively attended ,but out of town gigs seem to suffer a bit when the races are in town. I have a bit of back pain this morning though , I put it down to the tiny stage area we had , could only turn around between songs and had the occasional crossed necks with lead guitarist , then kept stepping back into the cymbals, I am normally fine if I can move around , but standing still knackers my back and my heels/feet for some reason. Song wise we did 3 encores and the landlord would have had us playing all night . It is the first time we have had to tell the landlord we had had enough !! but we had done 2 and half hours and the singer was beat , then at 1.15 we said our goodbyes he was getting his kareoke out and wanted us to join in . BigRedX Posted June 2, 2014 Share Posted June 2, 2014 (edited) Dick Venom & The Terrortones were at the Puzzle Hall Inn in Sowerby Bridge. A quaint looking pub situated between the River Calder and the Rochdale Canal. When we arrive we thought either we were in the wrong place or the venue had made a mistake in booking us. Mr Venom had decided to "green up" for this gig which caused a bit of a stir on the way as numerous people in other vehicles did double takes at the sight of what looked like the Grinch or a skinny Hulk driving a van full of other strange looking people: Luckily we didn't cause any accidents (or at least didn't notice if we did)! At the venue we were crammed into one end of a tiny room. The sunny weather meant that most people were drinking outdoors while we set up which made things easier: Our friend Cherry started off the evening with a spot of fire breathing and then the Terrortones were on stage. New drummer Miss Dusty Ventures played brilliantly, and we all played a storming set. Right at the end though Mr Venom said that he got a massive electric shock off the microphone which left him shaken and was the reason why the last chorus was instrumental only. While setting up the power tripped no less than 5 times (before we'd even turned the amps on!). Finally managed to get consistent power from an extension lead behind the bar. I had a feeling it was going to be one of 'those' nights... Next thing, we do soundcheck, who should appear... None other than Mr MDP! Thats right the infamous eBay master bodger extraordinaire himself is standing right in front of me! Turns out he's having a fish supper around the corner with his family... He comes over after the soundcheck and says "sounds good guys" then leaves... SO we get started, to a suspiciously overenthusiastic rabble of a few. Within about 5 songs, a couple of guys who were dancing (to smooth operator!!!) bump into each other, a heated discussion turns in to a bit of pushing and the place quickly descends into a moshpit briefly before a fight breaks out. (oh my days) Police are called, they have a word with the worst of the offenders and leave. Allowing the meatheads back in to the pub!!! Second set. And another punter decides to walk over to the stage area, expertly navigating the leads and mic stands despite his drunken state and makes a bee line for our singer. I step in his way and politely tell him to move away (mid song here so options limited) he doesn't, instead stands touching my shoulders watching my fretboard intently. I start to push gently away, guiding him to the edge of the stage, where he stays for the rest of the song playing air bass! In the end an audience member stepped in (3 times) to have a quiet word with him and eventually he backed off a bit. Believe me, I've never seen a band pack up and leave a gig so fast! lurksalot Posted June 7, 2014 Share Posted June 7, 2014 We played a fundraiser last night and had a right laugh , the organisers had put on a coach to the venue so it was empty when we were setting up , but the 50 or people who came along danced, bounced and moshed the whole of both sets and 3 encores on top of the 'normal' 2 we do , the the coach turned up at 12.30 and after some great goodbyes the place was empty again , quite surreal , but a superb night , some good money raised and a few more potential gigs on the back of it. We found ourselves crammed onto a tiny stage, no chance to do a sound check and a growing conviction that we (classic rock covers band specialising in the heavier end of the pop/rock spectrum) are in the wrong place. 5 minutes later the audience are equally convinced. An interesting night made all the better by the elderly couple (70 if they were a day) who danced the entire night, often on their own and to everything. Respect. FinnDave Posted June 7, 2014 Share Posted June 7, 2014 Played a charity gig without Jenny in Witney last night. Apart from some difficulties getting the gear in and set up, it went well. Not sure whether the guitarist called one song then played a different one or whether I just heard it wrong, but as both were 'all start together' songs it took me two bars to realize that I was playing 'Help Me' in G minor while the guitarist was playing 'Just your Fool' in G major. Could have been worse, we'd changed Help Me from F to G only the day before. Faringdon, on the western edge of Oxfordshire, this evening, back at an old favourite of ours, The Swan, for the last gig with Jenny for about 6 weeks as she is off to Summerfest in the States. We even got another, unrealated booking out of it; result. I had a hard time hearing myself at times and had a complete mental blank on the bass line to Walking on the Moon - c'mon man it's not difficult! Fortunately we all thought was funny and laughed it off until I found the riff (by trial and numerous errors). Just goes to show what can trip you up. Telebass Posted June 8, 2014 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Charity gig on the edge of the moor above Okehampton. Sort of outdoors. As we arrived, there was a tumultuous downpour, which reduced the area to quagmire in a few seconds. Jazzy quartet on when we get there, followed by a young metal band we've played with once or twice before. Then us from 9.30 solid to the end, around 3 hours later! Everyone had a great time. Except everyone was EATEN ALIVE by midges stirred up by the sudden heavy rain. However, someone had bug spray in their pocket, and I hope I got most of it off the neck finish! Great sound on stage once we'd got the PA engineer to take the guitars and bass out of the foldback (quite why anyone needs this when playing on a small stage I don't know). Played brilliantly to an audience of people who'd mostly never seen us before and get a fantastic response, including being demanded back on stage to do an encore! I'm a great believer that encores should be earned by both the band and the audience, so we rarely do them, but this time we were left in no doubt that our presence was required back on stage to play another song. Afterwards we got some complimentary comments from both Eugene Reynolds and Fay Fife of The Rezillos, and sold loads of CDs and T-shirst to some very enthusiastic new fans. All round, one of the best nights a band could hope for. I think they will be back at a few local gigs for sure... and the work they may provide will be good work... read, lucrative as they seemed plugged into a different circle, judging by the 'auction' As I said..will do us no harm at a golf club venue.. Went very well, she was on top form and the band played very well. Had some complaints (from one guy) that we finished early, but with 2 1/2 hours on stage including a couple of encores we felt they'd had their money's worth. At load-in the bass player with the first band asked me if he could borrow my amp, there was no prior arrangement about any gear share, so I asked if he had brought his amp: "I wasn't sure if I needed to, so I didn't" which I thought was mind boggling and hilarious at the same time! After saying no just to see the look on his face, I let him as they were up first, and I had sold him a fretless a while ago. The chap from the top band asked the same, but this time I politely declined, as 1) I'd never met him before and 2) I really wanted to go after I'd played.
