I'm over 3wks into a bug that is not shifting and my desire to drive up from Wiltshire and back in a day wasn't great. I brought my trusty Hofner Verythin bass and Blackstar U700 head. I was delighted that the festival cab was a Blackstar 4x10. From the second I plugged in, it sounded great. I'd not met the drummer before but our three piece sounded great. The stage manager afterwards told us we were the most professional band of the night. There were loads of pro photographers there but I am still waiting on the photos. Select and copy the contents of your post - although you shouldn't even need to do this as the forum software should have automatically saved your post as you type it - and then select "Go to topic listing". The drummer's a friend and invited me in, and we all had a total blast. jonno1981 Posted October 10 Share Posted October 10 (edited) Recently played as part of a scratch party band for the local cricket club end of season bash. It’s a bit of a collective of musicians and vocalists with some loose connection to the club (players, parents, wife’s etc). All very friendly and sociable. Two rehearsals only but came together nicely. The drummer was my neighbour who plays in loads of function bands. I had to play this one sitting down as I’m 4 weeks post pituitary surgery (don’t tell my doctor I played this!) and was feeling very fatigued by the end of it. It really made me concentrate on my playing rather than trying to “perform” if you know what I mean. Venue was Sandmartins, a local golf club function room, lovely acoustic, nicely dampened room, no shrill surfaces. Very welcoming and helpful staff, easy load in. Backline is owned/borrowed from club members and to my delight they have an Ashdown abm 4x10 and tc head to play through. Wonderful! Very fun hour set after the audience had got their awards (best bowler, batsman etc) and had been sufficiently lubricated at the bar. Mostly party stuff with a few band choices thrown in. I will survive, love shack, there is a light, summer of 69, easy, respect, lean on me etc. Singers great, audience appreciative, and a short trip home. Just what I needed actually! Music is a healer! JPJ Posted October 10 Share Posted October 10 Just in from a very enjoyable evening at the Harbour View Speakeasy in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. This is a very popular buskers type night with a featured player or band given 45 mins at the end to close out the night. I played tonight with our acoustic’ish trio doing a set of country & Americana tunes to an appreciative audience. Only my second gig entirely on EUB and i just about got away with it.
