However, we did a few times when we just did the rif during a fancy dress parade for 15 minutes and that was ok! 15mins of the Ghostbusters riff is brilliant. I like that. Its because we always messed it up going into the change, but the main riff you can just keep it going, and all the people had done really well with costumes, so we played that as each one came foreward, walked around a bit and went back and the people judged. Its one of those riffs that ones it is locked in you don't have to think about it at all.
moley6knipe Posted Monday at 20:03 Share Posted Monday at 20:03 Ghostbusters? I cheat and use a synth patch octave down and then play it up the dusty end!

We had a dep drummer but that wasn't the problem. On the plus side we sold 94 tickets at $15.00 a piece. Saturday's gig was a Zep tribute at a civic hall in Cottingham, a pretty posh suburb of Hull (no, I didn't know that there's a posh part of Hull either)! About 200 or so punters there, with 170 tickets sold a week before the show @ £17, a few more between then and the the gig and a handful of walk-ins on the night @ £20. Unfortunately, we were on a fixed fee, but still a decent payday. Fortunately, we played pretty well and all-in-all a good show. There was a very decent PA with a married couple running sound who knew what they were doing, which always helps. Bass sounded great as well - usual rig for the Zep band of a Fender Am Std Jazz, into a Caveman pre, into the Handbox R-400 and a Berg CN212. Dave He played with Showaddywaddy for quite a few years and currently plays with Martin Turner ex-Wishbone Ash. I'm going to guess the later is more likely for the recognition 😁 3
grapefruitmoon Posted Monday at 22:55 Share Posted Monday at 22:55 Played the Dreadnought in Bathgate with Temptation Waits on Friday night, our first full gig proper. I had a ball, set went down well with a smallish but enthusiastic crowd. First gig with the new guitarist and as a five piece, we're all happy with how we sounded, couple of minor slip ups, couple of tunes played waaaay too fast, but on the whole pretty chuffed. Sound in my IEMs was great, soundcheck was less than 5 mins and perfect, thanks to the sound man. Gear - played my Fender Player Jazz for the first time, really liking how this sounds in the mix. My trusty Squier 40th Anniversary Precision was an unused substitute. Played through my HX Stomp based board to Aguilar Tone Hammer 350 head, with the provided Ashdown cab.

Fri nights in the Dreadnought haven't been too busy in recent mths so don't let that bother you. Its a foot in the door and hopefully you get to move onto a Sat night when most people come in. Dreadnought is my fav venue for playing with both bands. Dougie (owner) Alan (manager) and usually we get Pete on sound. Never had a bad gig in there and the sound both on and off stage is always spot on. Its an extremely well run venue and always treat you well too. Dougie did say they expected it to be quiet as their Halloween party was on the Saturday night and that's their busiest night of the year. The place pretty much emptied a wee while after we finished, even the club bit was empty. A couple of us did go to the Halloween night and it was absolutely rammed!

Our punk covers band normally do Fri nights and the Glam covers a Sat night. Sometimes a Fri can be busy but its a hit or a miss but the venue is still brilliant and we use it as a paid rehearsal. We still get paid enough to cover expenses and more, no PA and lights to humph about especially at the end of the night so that's a great bonus. Our Glam band is doing the Sat night before Xmas and then a private party on the Sun afternoon so that's a no brainer for us. I just wish every venue put that much effort into having bands play. Muzz
So the dreaded return to the Monthly Misery place fell through (I didn't ask why, but it's always nice to get through a gig without the 5-0 making an appearance, so gift horses and mouths, etc) and we ended up doing a last-minute return gig at the Weasel Dust Palace in Burnley. We had our guest girl singer (who is very very good) and her presence means lots of changes to the setlist, which is a breath of fresh air. Most of the crowd were in Halloween fancy dress (tricky to tell some nights in Burnley, but I'm pretty sure this was the case), and it was a chemically-assisted (on the part of a lot of the crowd) Banging Night. Stooopid late finish, tho (the landlord wants bands on at 11pm), and because you play at the far end of the dance floor, the punters encroach as you're packing up: the drummer shifted his drum bags to his car, came back for his carpet, and there were three girls dancing on it... Satdy was a house party/birthday at a huuuge house on the West coast part of the Wirral (the posh bit of the Wirral where they get out of the bath for a wee), very nice people, catered, free bar (obviously, seeing as I had 70 miles to drive home...pfffttt...), nice early start to go with the extra hour later. This one was remarkable in that we lost the left hand PA top (we were using 2 x RCF 12s and the 12 sub, no amps and triggered kit) at the start of the second set, and nobody noticed. Nobody at all, other than the three of us. I turned the right hand top to point more directly at the dance floor and they all carried on oblivious... Lightweight cheapo P, Stomp, inears...
