Played an afternoon show today at Warners hotel in Bembridge, Isle Of Wight with Duran/Spandau tribute 'From Gold To Rio'. Nice big room and stage and a great sound in the IEMs and out front 👍

I bought my first guitar, first amp and far too much other stuff from Pete Hamm's brother, John, who had a music shop in Swansea for years. Very friendly bloke and never made a deal out of his more famous brother. But when I asked, he did say that he had all of Pete's guitars and other kit in storage above the shop. The shop is long gone now.

The Wiki page on Badfinger makes for interesting ( and very sad ) reading. Plenty of Beatles

connections with them being signed to Apple etc.

I bought the album a few yrs back and did the usual search on them and was quite shocked at the history behind them. As you say Pete it is a very sad story. Such a promising career too.

They had it all. Right time, right place and beautiful songs. Too bad everything went wrong.

Excellent, hopefully the first of many.

Extra points for realising you don’t need to wear a hat indoors. Unless the ceiling leaks, of course 🤭

Ah, I remember playing that place.... the door behind the drums leads to the dressing room, which is a static caravan! Full on Alan Partridge and much laughs with our own 'Music For Chameleons' fretless bass shenanigans....

Great venue for a first gig! Proper stage and decent house PA. Result!

It's addictive. 😀 Well done for taking the first step. Good luck finding a regular supply. 🤣

First of two nights for me. Main band tonight at a favourite venue that did not disappoint. Not rammed but busy and well up for it.

Sets were mixed up and worked pretty well including the new songs. Crowd well up for it and singing (loud enough for me to get a feel for it through the IEM ambient mic) & dancing all night and three encores so that was good.

Drummer was tired from lack of sleep with family problems chasing round to help out with one of his sons pregnant girlfriend who had problems and had to go to hospital, so fingers crossed for that, also I missed rehearsal last Monday so we both had a few moments through the night, but nothing that couldn’t be caught.

Plenty of compliments in the break and at the end of the night, and a reasonable wedge from the bucket in addition to general fee so that was good.

First night with the Sennheiser G4 IEM which went well, though I should have completed my tests and properly read the manual beforehand. Running into it mono but didn’t seem to have switched something and was only getting signal one side for soundcheck. A bit of poking around in menus before first set and managed to fix that enough for a good night and pleased with that acquisition - anyone need a barely used xvive system 😁

Tried the C4 synth with a Gecko midi switcher, having spent a while setting/tweaking patches on Thursday. I need a new pedalboard and power supply as there was a horrible buzzing of a ground loop I am presuming was the separate power supply running them. No time to tinker so just took them out of the chain and that seemed to fix it.

Used the FrankenJazz acquired from @Beedster late last year. Still loving it over the S2 at the moment and only occasionally thrown by the missing string and D-tuner.

WOW those guitarists sound so good together and have captured that Robertson/Gorham sound so well.

Nice overall sound and well played everyone.

Enjoyed that.

Battling against a sound limiter is never fun.  Resting level before we played a note was 82dB.  We were told not to exceed 100dB so set phasers to soft blast and away we went.  On any occasion where we tipped 100dB the barman ran out and told us we were too loud and had to turn down.

We adapted the vocals to suit and at one point I was asked, jokingly, if my bass was on.

Well, we made it to the end, got paid and went home.

Drums, bass, 2 x guitars, 2 x vocals and moothie.

Where was that ? I remember playing a wee support slot with Status Quoiing at a club in West End Glasgow possibly out towards Paisley area that had a Db monitor. Mic was at far end of the hall. I just put a cover over the mic and no-one was any the wiser.

Having had sound limiter wars myself, I feel your pain. Like with your band, the ridiculous level set

on the limiter was close to going off before the band started, and anything like a cymbal splash

or guitar frequencies made it trigger. Compressed pre recorded music played by the DJ didn’t

seem to be so problematic so we ended up shortening our sets accordingly and letting the DJ

do more. The bride and groom whose wedding we were playing at were rightly annoyed with the venue

for not pointing out the limiter problems when they booked it, and were very understanding of our dilemma.

I get the need for limiters but when they have to be set unfeasibly low it is just ridiculous for almost any

form of live music ( with peaks/dynamics etc ) to function.

All in all a right pain. 🙁

Find the mic cable and surreptitiously stick a pin through it, or as we used to do years ago have a roadie roam the venue with a mains tester searching out a socket that didn’t trip while the drummer hit the snare and run *everything* from that socket on a long cable 🤣

Yep done that too. Usually the kitchen sockets in a club are fine.:laugh1:
