The joys of playing with the Nathan Wall band

Only Joking !....I have always enjoyed playing with them,the last time(xmas eve at the Vollo)
it was the guitarists first ever gig with him,the drummers first for three months
and my first since I had played twice with his band two years previously!!!

He gets lots of work so must be doing something right.

Two Terrortones gigs at the weekend.

First on Friday a mini set at the Jam Café with our new drummer. The idea was just to do the seven songs that he'd learnt on a local no-pressure gig to get him acclimatised to what playing live with us entails. So imagine his (and our) surprise when we turn up to find local web TV are there to film the entire event for a video podcast! Everything went well though. There were a couple of dodgy moments but nothing really obvious and several people said it was one of the best gigs they'd seen us play! Decided to use the Born To Rock for the first time live. Unfortunately the side dots which I'd put on with "permanent" felt-tip pen had all rubbed off by the end of the first song, so there were some less than brilliant note choices from me later in the set...

Then on Saturday we were in Worksop at the Frog & Nightgown. An evening fraught with technical difficulties, which resulted in me having to help the PA engineer fix the drum monitor. Played to probably the most disinterested audience of our entire career. Normally Mr Venom's antics will either cause the audience to back away, or have someone threatening to give him a slap! However this time they simply ignored him and the rest of us on stage. Very strange! Still we got paid and sold some CDs and T-shirst to the few people who were interested in us. This was probably our last gig with our original drummer (he's said he'll do the one we have in Birmingham at the end of the month, but TBH if the new guy is up to speed with the whole set we'll be using him) and it was a bit of an anti-climax. We played fine, but the lack of audience reaction put a bit of a damper on the whole evening.

Had a cracking gig on Saturday night, first time out for the new rig, MM Jazz with the Orange TB500, sounded, well awesome. Very happy with it, we played as loud as we've ever played and I only had the volume and gain on 3, ridiculous amount of headroom!!
Anyway the band played really tight, only real misshap was the guitarist forgetting to change guitars for a drop d tune, we carried on playing while he changed guitars. The crowd were brill, had a top reaction. The manageress came right to the band once we'd finished to rebook us.
All in all one of the better ones.

PARTY TIME

we were booked by my best mates Mrs for his 50th and it was fantastic , his family are all big muso's and some play/gig and record so the pressure was on , but the night was superb , and with the promise of more parties it was a great night , an early finish of 11.15 meant that a bit of socialising after worked out well . we hope to organise a jam night for the next big birthday in the family , that will be the craic

First gig with a new Band last night and..
..We played 2 sets, nice crowd of live music fans in, all in all good fun.
We did a mix of 50/50 of originals and covers Bluesy.

Great gig at a biker gang's clubhouse near Leeds. Scary to look at, but very friendly crowd, and looks like we got some more clubhouse bookings out of it. The MB Fusion and 2 Compacts sounded brilliant, and I used the DHA bass drive a bit too.

We did a private birthday party last night. A varied selection of music, as requested by the client. Top of the 'must have' list was Stairway to Heaven. It was actually the first time any of us had played it live for real.
The evening ended with us jump-starting one of the party guest's cars for them. ('all part of the service madam').
We were encouraged to help ourselves to the curries and beer from a local micro-brewery.

Had an excellent night in Falmouth last night with the rock covers band I play in. The sound was excellent and all the band played well. The punters were really into it all night.

I have been using my Ashdown LB550 with barefaced super twelve for a while now and the combination is killer. I have had lots of nice comments on the sound, so its not just me that notices it.

Cracking gig with covers band Dazed, last night. Back to "Northern Clubland" after a committee member saw us at a local pub. Cheap beer and very friendly, but older, audience. Finished first set and were immediately re-booked. During the interval Bingo, a large group of bikers appeared and began chatting to my wife, who was doing sound-fortunately it was all smiles and laughing as we had done a fairly middle of the road set, in view of the audience. We are now booked for their Silver Anniversary get together and they want to bring our singer into the venue on the back of one of their Harleys-she is delighted!!! What a great bunch of guys.

My gig last night......... cancelled due to bad weather.

So I sat supifyingly bored in the house watching Saturday night TV. What a load of bollocks. Pub gigs should be rammed if that's what folk do as an alternative.

Reasonable sized stage to play on...
Unfortunately the view the other way was a bit underwhelming!! A few more turned up later and we had a big rush to the stage about 11.30pm for the last few songs........well about ten dancers anyway! You get some gigs like this, those that were there really enjoyed it and tbh we played really well. I had a wander up to the bar a couple of times mid song to swell the crowd a bit hehe!

The Red Lion - Witney Oxon

Yeah a good night all in all. Played from 10pm - 1am with only 20 mins break so pretty tired today. Good crowd with a mix of ages all of whom were heartily appreciative. Best thing was that the sound engineer (Stuart) really knows his stuff so sound was massive. Re-booked for August and NYE -Result!!!

Kings of the Realm...Sheffield O2 Academy.

My first gig with this band. We did this gig in aid of a local hospital cancer charity. Surprising good turn out given the crap weather.

We were the only originals band on the bill. Got to say we couldn't have played better, songs went down very well. Sound was very good out front so I as told after we came off. Had a slight problem at the start of the set as there was no bass coming out of the monitors and I couldn't hear sod all, eventually got the attention of the monitor engineer and got him to turn it up. Really enjoyed the experience, TBH I thought the gig may well bomb due to the weather, but all was good.

Last night was the blues duo at the King William, Milford, Derbyshire. Had the pub not been on the A6 getting there and back would have been a non-starter due to the snow. The crowd was modest but very appreciative, with a kind of 'sod the weather' blitz spirit.
The journeys took longer than normal as I stuck to major roads where possible.

You know, if I saw a waterboard club, I too would be a bit scared to go in, it sounds a little too "specialist" for my tastes.

Hired the 100 Club in London, had 200 friends along and charged them a fiver. Gave £500 to a music charity and stumped up the rest. Scribbled our name on the wall and felt like a million dollars. Been smiling all day.

One of our best weddings of late. Guests were nice and merry but not trashed out of their skull - bride lead the dancing all night and the dance floor was full right from the start. The first dance was One Day Like This by Elbow; not much excitement at the low end of things but our keyboard player had fun recreating a full orchestra! Got sorted with a generous plate of steak and stilton pie in addition to the usual buffet and I ate too much cheese. Videos turned out okay too so I'll try and get my hands on them.

All went so well until this morning - I was due arrive to set up at a wedding fayre at 9:00 but missed my alarm and didn't get out of bed until 9:30! D'oh!

I live in London. The gig was near Plymouth, 240 miles away. The band were really on it, a great gig. After the gig, around 1am, the car wouldn't start. It took another 13 hours and 3 AA relay trucks to get home. That was a long day & night. Why can't these things happen when you play 2 miles from home? Lol.

Played at the Shed in Leicester last night. Went ok, struggled to pull much of an audience if I'm being honest.

Gig went ok, sound was good and band was tight. Nice reaction.

Saw a band called Twin Arrows who were a kind of rock/jazz/funk fusion. French band. Excellent, well worth checking out.

Played Surya, on the Pentoville Rd, London, with The Tuesday Club.

We were headlining, with 3 other acts. Being the day before pay-day, and just before a bank holiday, predictably the crowd was sparse to say the least. But, good sound through FOH, and we played well, sufficiently so for a guy in the audience to ask us to do a gig he`s arranging, in Camden on a Sat afternoon.

So just goes to show, always do your best, you may get better rewards than you expect.
