Did four gigs this weekend.. first (Friday) was in the Cheyne Walk club in Northampton, hoping to see our regulars in, but Craig Charles was at the Roadmender, so our audience was thin.

Saturday night was at Joes Bar in Higham Ferrers - big boxy wooden floored pub, but it got very busy so we got a pretty decent sound and the crowd loved it. "That Bloke" that you always get at a gig was dancing on the bar, completely off his face - almost fell off the bloody thing twice.

Sunday started with a 4'oclock gig at the Desborough services club - out in the garden - loads of families - very hot, no-one danced, but it went down well. Then rapid tear down and dash to the Cuttle Inn in Long Itchington, near Rugby.  Set up in 45 minutes including backdrop, lights, PA, Kit backline and had a great gig.

'That Bloke' here was a huge geezer who was trying to dance, despite him being totally plastered - he fell over onto our PA stack and almost brought it down (we were using a great sounding, but lightweight BOSE system with Sub cabs and an array of small speakers for the mid and top. Doesn't stand up to 15 stone TW*TS falling into them. That aside, the pub was packed and they danced and danced from the off. Despite being totally knackered after four two hour sets plus rig, derig and travel it was one of those nights when you could have gone on for ages.

Ey Up Mi Duck festival on Friday, on drum with Headsticks, we played inside at the end of the night, around 11pm, and it was rammed. I guess most of them had seen us before as they were all singing along. The PA was a bit dodgy, they had a bunch of 4 gang extension leads chained up and one of the revellers managed to spill a drink on one of them. The soundman looked a bit worse for wear and suggested that was us done for the night but someone managed to find the reset switch - it turns out the extension had one of those protection things built in. Anyway, we played till after midnight and it was great fun

Saturday night we played the May Day Festival of Solidarity which is a socialist affair. When we arrived there were a few VERY folky acts on and the crowd was in total appreciative silence - not our usual crowd. I was a bit concerned but it went alright. Nowhere near as good as the night before, but then the crowd weren't anywhere near as wasted.

On Sunday I played a local festival on lead guitar as part of Julia Mosely's band. I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it. I've played guitar since I was a kid but never done it in a band before so I'm struggling with confidence a bit, but I've seen some recordings and it sounds good. It's on Facebook so I don't know if you'll be able to see it...

Played a fun charity gig at The Waggon and Horses in Peasedown St John Somerset in aid of the South West Air Ambulance, outside and weather held up too, very chilled event, decided to take my ‘big rig’ as I wasn’t sure of the PA setup etc. Glad I did in the end - we were sounding good (The Watts) and went down rather well.

We were back at the Wine Vaults in Banbury last night, always a great gig and last night was no exception. Early plans to play outside were scuppered by early evening showers, but no matter - great atmosphere, an ‘up for it’ crowd, and everyone up and dancing by the end.  

I had my MIM Fender Jazz going into my Genz Benz rig, and my Joyo American Sound overdrive thingy on all night for a little bit of crunch; sounded lovely and cut through nicely. 

Next stop for us is The Swan in Banbury, another favourite of ours in a couple of weeks.

We played an excellent little café-bar in Worcester on Friday... Only downside was that it was tiny - stage was the width of the supplied drum-kit plus bass amp which meant guitar amp and PA were in front of me and drummer with no vocal monitoring.

And because the guitarist/singer was right in front of his guitar amp and in front of us he was in a little world of his own amongst the audience which made seeing cues difficult!

Still, we played reasonably well, there were positive comments from the "crowd" and heard from the owner that a group of people were dancing in the main bar area, which was unfortunately shielded from us by a wall.

Roll on Hereford next week - where we only get a 30 minute set and there's 10 bands on!

At a beer festival in rural Bucks last night, early evening slot so punters were still sober enough to recognise the choons! We played outside in a tent with 1 power socked and a coupla lumps of chipboard for the drumkit in persistent rain..It was brilliant!

1st outing for our new singist and he had a whale of a time...and we got asked back, so something went right

Someone ought to tell your guitarist with the white Strat to get one too, or that beer on his valve combo might be the end of him.

If it is the same Gary, and I think it is, he was a singer for a short while in a band I was in - 5 Shades of Grey.  Lovely fella but it didn't quite work out.  Say 'Hi' to him for me and hope he doesn't swear back at you

Played a small gig on Saturday, crowd was great and bouncing. In all fairness it was my own wedding and the band I had booked gladly allowed me to practise and play a couple of songs with them throughout the night. My newly wife and I are massive Stevie Ray Vaughan fans so the band was happy to learn a couple of hits and let me play with them during the evening. All I can say is that no one was surprised when I got up to play. But, what was surprising was when my band and my dad (who also plays bass) booted the other band off and played some songs them self. Was a great wedding!

Last night was a private party for insurance company Bought By Many down in Brighton; wasn't great - started badly as the singer got the address wrong, so a last minute re-direction and then stress about parking in a residents only bay at 19:15, when I shouldn't have parked there until 20:00 but parking near the venue otherwise was all but impossible - usual poor Brighton parking made worse by the Great Escape festival being on.

The venue wasn't really right for a band, not a lot of space and a lot of hard surfaces, that, plus the good weather meant a lot of people were out in the garden and we got asked to turn down a few times. I think they'd have been better off with a DJ to be honest.

Tonight we're playing a pub I don't expect to be a lot better - long drive, small space, sound limiter; but at least we'll be well prepared for a wedding on Saturday (sadly not at Windsor)

Great gig last night. It was our first time at this venue and it was packed with enthusiastic punters. Given that it was just round the corner from the school I used to work at, it's fair to say that I had a good sized rent-a-crowd there, although most of them had never seen me play (they seemed genuinely impressed). Very hot and sweaty and some interesting 'hot' notes on stage where the guitarist's and my lower notes were trying to create a sonic weapon (note to self, set up on the other side from his rig next time). Nice venue (just a pub though) in that it was a nice, long, straight room, with no awkward corners or recesses. Really looking forward to playing here again.

Played a large pub in the centre of Reading last night, 4th time there in the last 6 months, and always the same problems finding somewhere to park. Dedicated (but tight) stage area, decent sound quality, but lack of punters until the final half hour when they all poured in from somewhere else and the previously empty area between us and the bar was full of bright young things dancing their socks off.

The gig was slightly marred by one of the guitarists bringing a guitar he didn't like playing, having no strap...and then vanishing during the break and returning 10 minutes into the second set. 

Another gig with the same band tonight, this time in Didcot, which is about half the distance that Reading is for me, and has a large car park behind the pub we're playing in.

Did a fundraiser for one of our colleague’s daughter who has been recently paralysed from the waist down. We played at work in an outdoor area about 60’x120’. Sound was a nightmare due to the walls and the marquee roof, struggled to avoid sounding like we had permanent reverb. Floor was wobbly slabs which didn’t help the sound either. Mostly colleagues, friends and family and were up for it from the off. The support band played 40 minutes then we did 2x1hour sets with them shouting for more at the end (sadly we were bouncing off the licence curfew). A brilliant night and raised a load of money as well.

Last night's pub was okay, first half was muted and the pub pretty dead, picked up in the second half.

Last 20 mins or so were great, the singer broke out a couple of Harry and Megan masks - I was Megan - and people loved it. Those 20 minutes were the most fun of the gig.

Having your vision restricted is an odd feeling when playing, but I didn't have many problems - makes me want to buy a fretless

Just back from a charity gig at Glastonbury Town Hall. We (Bad Cowboys) did the 6.30-7.30 slot, followed by the Glen Tilbrook flying solo.

Ours went very well but Glen is good and has such a back catalogue to draw upon.
