I hadn’t played a show for a year 😂. What an experience! Looks like you were having a blast in those pics. Well done. What is the band ? Dave They’re called Funeral For a Friend from S.Wales. They were big on the mid 00’s and just reformed with most of that era one up and they’re have a whale of a time. these pics are show 3 and 4 for me playing and I managed to get my bass out with us so I felt a lot more comfortable. I was in a band with Gav (jumping photo) so I fit right in. Their bassist Boosh is an absolute beast of a player.

I remember getting absolutely smashed with them in around 2003/2004 at the Welsh Music awards at he Coal Exchange in Cardiff as we were on the same table - those free Jack Daniels cocktails had a lot to answer for........ woke up at 9am in my hotel room, flat out on my back with a full roast beef baguette, crisps and salad on a plate atop my chest - I'd ordered food from room service, then fallen asleep before I could eat it!! uk_lefty
Played a wedding on Saturday night... I was almost dreading it. I was a bit exhausted with the busy schedule this new band has and wasn't looking forward to the gigs. We had a minor disaster in that three of us drove one hour east to Chelmsford to find the wedding venue locked and not set up for a wedding. The singer was setting up for the gig in Hemel Hempstead when he realised he hadn't updated the rest of us on a change in venue. Cue an hour and a half driving west and the fastest set up EVER. No hard feelings, these things happen, on the bright side we realised if we don't faff about the set up can be done lightning quick. The gig itself was really good fun. We played in a small space and at a low volume. We had a good set for a wedding too, some party songs mixed in with the usual rock covers, and a different ending to what we usually do. A few new songs tried out. We had a blast. It restored some enthusiasm and I am buzzing for Friday's rock gig in a proper rock venue!
WalMan
Last Saturday, but still great fun. Forty years on did a gig with my first real (second actual) band, well guitar, bass & drums with our roadie/manager on vocals. ”You’re all a bunch of punks, so why’s he got a ****** haircut?” Was the cry at a gig in Reading many years ago 😱 Well we were and we weren’t. Spiky new wave three piece (so plenty of scope for me to ‘overplay’ to fill space) but with odd time signatures, and influences from XTC, Joe Jackson & Elvis Costello through to Bebop Deluxe, Wishbone Ash, Yes, Camel, etc.. Started with guitarist and drummer aged 17 in a country band playing WMC’s with an older guitarist and learnt our ‘trade’ then started on our own as a three piece playing originals on the pub circuit. Got together just before lockdown and did a short support set with my main band three days before the world stopped in 2020. Saturday was a longer set with another punky band joint headlining. Great fun, and like slipping on an old glove. Still so easy to get through songs, blag through covers, and get out of odd glitch with a knowing nod. Hopefully we’ll do it all again, it’s just such fun to bash out catchy short power pop originals, though ‘Do The Static’ remained as true now as it was then 🤦♂️ 6
Stub Mandrel
Went to an open mike at the Earl Haig in Cardiff with Alex, guitarist in Bluesfire. Both very nervous as probably Cardiff's top blues rock venue and hoping to make an impression. Met loads of great musos and some really impressive music. We were lucky to find a great drummer (sorry didn't catch your name!) who knew our songs (Walking in my shoes, All your love, So many roads) and an ace saxophonist, Stuart who did a great job on so many roads especially some wicked call and response with Alex. Got a few nice compliments which was nice as there were some cracking basists there. Hopefully get the gig!

Stub Mandrel
Yes the Embassy 🙂 Sound courtesy of a chap who understood the utterly confusing controls on a big Line 6.

stewblack
Just got home from taking part in a Bandeoke. I suspect the sudden arctic chill had an impact on the audience numbers, but those there enjoyed it. I used my Bugera Veyron T, and it didn't just look lovely but sounded ace too. Put a Bass Centre P Bass into it via the Zoom B6. Oh my goodness that's a great pedal. The envelope filter I used was head and shoulders above any I've gigged with - and believe me I've had more than a few. So simple to tweak on the fly, and so many great sounds. I'm a very happy bunny. Nice to get paid on a Thursday too.

dmccombe7
Nice gig in Bathgate Dreadnought venue tonight with the punk band. Started off a bit slow with regards audience attendance but it gradually got busier as we went thru the first set. Lots of dancers on the floor and turned out to be a great night. Sound guy was a bassist so i had a great sound out front. On stage sound was perfect. Could hear everything clearly. Great feedback at the end of the night. Sound guy said he had seen the band many times in this venue but this was by far the best the band had ever sounded. Really tight and driving punk songs. I told him its just that the band has gel'd and there's a great atmosphere in the band and we are all quite relaxed within the band. Several punters said it was acracking gig and they loved the band. No pics as yet. I packed up and left after we finished so dont know if we've been paid for it LOL Dave Edited April 2, 2022 by dmccombe7
NoRhino
I spent the whole gig fending off "the loony on the bus" who insisted on singing into mics, touching guitars and bass during songs, turning machine heads, stepping on fx pedals and even blowing into harmonicas! That last one immediately struck Roadhouse Blues from the set. Guy was a total nightmare.

Glad our singer is good at dealing with those guys. The last gig I had there was a drunk guy who wanted to play the drum kit, he was trying to crash through and I said 'look, I am still trying to set up and there are leads everywhere which I need to sort out so can you come back later' and he looked at me and said 'that was the nicest f*** off I have ever had' and wandered off quite happy. 2

Marky L
Had a flippin' great gig last night! Just a local covers band but the pub was full and not withstanding the odd one or two infractions concering playing the correct note (which only we ever notice), the punters loved it. Our natural exuberance normally makes it rock all the harder!
stewblack
Depped for a Madness tribute near Southampton last night. Was in a big social club with a predictably mixed audience of all ages. Sight read the whole thing, mostly successfully, only second time I've ever done this live. Bugera Veyron T, Barefaced, Bass Centre P. Great fun.
