Anyway, Wigan Diggers is a great festival. We've done it quite a few times in the past and it's always such a lovely atmosphere. The extremely warm weather can only have helped. The crowd looked huge to me, and everyone looked to be enjoying themselves. The only downer was some idiot causing trouble down at the front half way through. A giant fan of ours managed to gently escort him off but it always puts a damper on the atmosphere. The other negative was that I'd forgotten my hi-hat stand. There was a house kit, but set as high as I could get it, it was still 10 inches lower than I'd have liked. My fault, and pretty amusing

Sunday night at Feral Fest in Herefordshire. It was a pleasure to see @Leonard Smalls band Choked. When I saw them at Rebellion Festival the sound wasn't great but last night in this barn was brilliant. Two very distinctive bass sounds and styles, tight drummer, female Zach De-La Rocha at the front, and an absolute wah-wizard on lead guitar. There wasn't a massive crowd but everyone seemed to be in to it. The highlight was our man's glitter trousers and I wish I'd have taken a photo but I guess we've all see them in this thread by now

 

Our set was just after and there were even fewer in the barn for us at first. It seemed to turn around after a couple of songs, no idea why, but people started to appear from somewhere and in the end it was a great gig. No photos as I forgot

 

Now I'm trying to work my day job on 3 hours sleep

 

Ah, you were with Headsticks. That's cool, we heard a lot of good things about you and people were definitely looking forward to your set.

 

It is a great festival, it was our second time there and we ended up playing earlier, as there was a clash with something the violin player had booked in for later in the day. Or at least it was a clash last year, when we were originally scheduled to do it (before it was cancelled).

Struggled with gigs last Weds (turned out to be the last one hosting the jam night, for ridiculous reasons not worth detailing, but that's £300 a month binned 😡), Friday and Saturday, I felt dreadful all week, but I'd put it down to two 5am starts for work Tues/Weds, a bad cold and the heat. Then my other half (the nurse) went back to her ward after some time off to find they're back on the masks (it's a Very Poorly ward, so particularly vulnerable), and she brought a Covid test home with her, and guess what? Yup. 🙁

On the upside, my IEMs are are frickin joy: no backline to shift, just my bass bag and my bits and bobs rucksack, my own individual mix from the desk, setup and breakdown in about two minutes...eeeeeeasy...it'd take something for me to go back to any backline other than my Rumble 100 on its stand these days...

 

I should say that there's only me and the drummer on inears; the other two have a monitor, so it can be done without everyone having to buy in to IEMs...

[Staggering on]

Seven piece swing/Dixie "little big band" gig last night to a packed house. We played our usual two sets of swing/jazz and then a set of Dixieland when I switch from DB to tenor banjo and a sax player takes over the bass parts on Bari sax. We had a guest vocalist for some of the swing tunes and the crowd was with us from the first note.  We played well and the Dixie went over even better than usual with clapping along on the first song. All in all a very good night and my Shen SB100 with a Realist Lifeline sounded fantastic direct into our Bose PA. 😊

This gig should be interesting.  We've rented a new Econoline Van, we're all traveling together.

Saturday gig almost upon us,  The Petty Thieves.  So called because almost 1/2 our setlist is Tom Petty covers, which of course, being a covers band, we stole.

On Thursday we played a free show at a local gallery where our guitarist has exhibited in his day job as a professional artist. He's been getting into multimedia and projections in particular so this night was promoted as "Sound and Vision" and featured ourselves alongside another local band as well as what turned out to be seven separate projectors.

 

The room was great for the projections with masses of tall, bare walls but the sound was predictably affected. We had a good turnout which made the laborious set-up worthwhile (ever tried negotiating a menu that is both upside down and beamed onto a wall several metres away?)

Packed a couple dozen people into the small room above the Packhorse in Leeds for our originals outfit. There was pretty good sound (apparently), ‘thick bass tone’ got a couple of compliments though non-functional fans meant it got very sweaty. Good clean fun.

OMG! The whole gig was total 

*" Po Dunk".

 

It was nothing like what was presented to us. No spacious grounds, cheap tent, only one food truck and the sound that was provided was awful. And the adult beverage selection was poor.

 

However, we sounded good and gave the a good Maple Road show.

At least the band did a proper  job and that's the most important part .............. as well as getting paid of course.

Band played a blinder, ridiculously great reaction from a very hot and sweaty crowd in Hastings. 

 

New tracks went down superbly.

 

Old hands who have seen us many times repeatedly told us it was the best gig we had played there and the second set was particularly brilliant. Apparently it highlights all sorts of different variations of funkiness whilst always sounding like us.

 

 

Got paid well by the venue and the tip jar was stacked as well. 

 

All in all an absolute belter of a gig 🤩

Definitely try it, we just got a £1 bucket from b&q and stuck a picture of the bands logo on, and get the singer to mention it at points in the gig when it’s going well.

Last two weeks with The Bridge have been regular bar gigs in three of our regular venues. All perfectly good shows, no major dramas apart from almost running out of petrol on the way home on Friday. Not much to report!

Last night we returned to Wilsons in Aberdeen, and it was a good one.  First live outing for the Explorer, and it was a lot of fun - I managed not to silly billy anyone with it plus it sounded good to boot!  Once again we had our guest "guitarist" Gordon with us for a bunch of songs, and I managed to get some one-on-one posing time with him during Whole Lotta Rosie.

 

Decent crowd, some familiar faces and some new ones, just what you want to see.  When people ask when you're coming back, you must be doing something right.  Was supposed to finish at 12.30 but ended up playing until 12.45 due to ONE MOAR CHOON requests.

 

Amp made it to the end of the gig - this was helped by turning on only 5 mins before we were due to start and switching it off at half time, it still felt unnervingly warm at the end (can feel the heat through the front panel) so it will need further investigation.

It was a total giggle!

We were booked for a fancy dress party for some, well fans of the band I guess. The theme was Icons. So apart from 5 George Michaels, 6 Freddie Mercurys, 3 Slashes, 3 Elvis (what's the plural there?) and an equal number of Amy Winehouses (and lots of others of course) I'm happy there was only one me.

 

A bass player? An icon? I had no other option!

Last night with The Gray Project was at the White Horse in Beyton. A regular for us they’ve been very supportive of the band and it’s always a fun gig, if a bit cramped sometimes. Nice local crowd and the icing for me, in addition the the lovely pre-gig steak pie and chips, was going to the bar at the end and a chap, who’s seen us a couple of times, buying me a pint and both him and his mate shaking my hand telling me I’m a superb bass player. He said he played bass in a blues rock band and couldn’t play the half stuff that I did. Surprisingly neither of them appeared particularly drunk either. Which was nice. I’ve taken to using my rig upright as advised in several posts on here. It definitely sounds better to me and my band mates have also commented positively.

what's the amp again ? i think you told me earlier in the thread but it was a few pages back in the depths of time and i don't want my Latte to get cold while i'm searching.
