We can get a fairly decent crowd locally, but outside of our "area" we're pretty much unknown. "Build it and they will come". Played a gig in Methil Scotland about a 2 hr drive for me each way so nowhere near as horrendous as @cheddatom but first time was around 50-60 people in a club that holds approx 180-200. 2nd time was sold out so its all about getting in the door and showing how good you are. That was just after pandemic and that had a big effect on how many people wanted to socialise. Not so sure i'd drive 5 hrs each way tho. That's a long haul especially on way home after a gig. Usual story with Matt starting off with good intentions following the set list only to get distracted and wander off playing songs either I or the guitarist didn’t know 😆 But we busked it and it seems no-one noticed or cared. Until the bar staff had to come and tell us to shut up at 11.30 because we should have stopped at 11…. I thought it was going to be a bust, but ince the first band started the room packed out. Smallest stage ive ever seen. Had to do a lot of Bill Wyman style playing. Anyway, I think you know where this is going, lost the use of my right upper arm and was in quite extreme discomfort all evening, leaving the strap fully extended and my bass round my knees. 🙄 I can only put the change in the effect on my arm to some significant weight loss over the last six months. Almost had a major disaster, as I went on stage without my hat, fortunately our eagle-eyed sometime tour manager noticed it. Positioning himself at the side of the stage with said head-gear, I was able to wander over allowing him to return it to its rightful location. It makes using a wireless all the more worthwhile! I was really pleased with how we played and we didn't get bottled off, which is always nice. Had a very pleasant brief chat with @lurksalot of the parish, who kindly turned up to support us. Daryl Well deserved break always brings you back refreshed and raring to go. I've nothing planned for hols this year again but will probably just do some days away somewhere for a wee bit of fast car fun probably up into the Highlands area of Scotland where roads are a bit more quiet. Got about 5 mins into my 25 min drive, then got a WhatsApp from the drummer - who was already at the venue - saying “stand down, they haven’t got the booking in their diary” FFS.
