Nothing to do with the gig but on Tuesday I learnt that my blood cancer which had been in remission has kicked off again so I'm likely to be facing 6 months of chemo which will keep me out of gigging and rehearsing. Bit of a bugger. And my lovely Father in Law passed away the day before so all in all a bit of an iffy week. So sorry to hear this. Not a good week for you by any means but hopefully in 6mths you'll be back gigging again. Take care and keep us posted on how things are going for you. Dave 2 Quote

We got quite a few compliments. The smoke machine did obscure our drummer somewhat. Photo taken during soundcheck when he was still visible. Videos can be seen here: See what you mean with the smoke machine there Look on the bright side it was very atmospheric and kinda suited the music. Well done after 2.5 rehearsals. Dave Quote

I've played there a few times and because it's not exactly in the centre of Coventry, and can be quite hard to find if you've not been before, the audience size can be variable. I have a gig there next month and hopefully it will be a better turnout than some of the times I've played. The most disappointing was when I was in The Terrortones and we had local bands Octogoth and Army of Skanks supporting. The place was packed during their sets and almost empty when we went on... 1 4 Quote

Maybe a quarter or a third full. It was a showcase night, with four bands on - we were first on and Mrs Zero was rather tired so we only stayed on for one other band. Our drummer was the sound engineer there until a couple of years ago when he started doing sound in Birmingham. 2 Quote

wateroftyne Posted Friday at 20:51 Posted Friday at 20:51 Nipped across to not-very-sunny Zurich to play at an Americana festival. Had a great few days. I've worked with Peter for a long time, but this is his other band and I'd never met them before. Just had time to top-and-tail at the soundcheck, and off we go. They're a hugely talented bunch. 16 Quote

Desbass Posted Friday at 21:32 Posted Friday at 21:32 Great clip. As Mr Donegan Jr says one of the most influential songs in UK musical history. He inspired The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton amongst others. As a proud Glaswegian I say "Gaun Yersels, Donegans!" (Translation- spiffing work old chaps, highly impressed).😉 2 Quote

Bluewine Posted Saturday at 00:26 Posted Saturday at 00:26 I have a 3-6 acoustic gig tomorrow at The Ziegler Winery. Very nice upscale well appointed room. This one is at least an hour commute one way. I'll be picked up at 12:30 and I'll get home around 8:00. Daryl 6 Quote
Norris Posted Saturday at 01:40 Posted Saturday at 01:40 It was a cold wet evening and Leicester City were playing an FA Cup tie on ITV (we woz robbed!) which probably all contributed to it being a little slower than normal in the Railway Countesthorpe tonight. However the people that were there were enthusiastic, and the fewer bodies allowed this rather good photo to be grabbed by one of the crowd (which I then stole from Faceache)... Friday gigs are always a bit tougher for a weekend warrior like me after a day's work. The guitarist had been rehearsing all day for an upcoming tour with Martin Turner, so we were both pretty done in by the end of the night. We have tomorrow night off though, so the whole band, WAGs and kids are going to see the new Led Zep film and grab a bite to eat afterwards The Sire again plus the usual GT-6B and Rumble 500. I also gave my black DMs an outing 12 Quote

bigthumb Posted Saturday at 18:43 Posted Saturday at 18:43 Not last nights gig but last Saturdays... Sorry for the long post. Jan 2nd our drummer quit, quite out of the blue. It was quite a shock as he was very keen, a great drummer and always up for and gig or practice. We managed to get a replacement who was/is a very experienced guy who's spent years gigging in some pretty good bands and depped for many others and will ing to join the band. He said that he knew our set bar a couple of songs so all very promising. We had a full rehearsal before the gig which went ok. Not brilliant but as well as could be expected. We were all happy to go and gig. So at the gig. The new drummer guy looked very uncomfortable. He took a long time to set up and didn't really interact with any of us. Our singer was asking if everything was alright and offering to help if he could. Apparently he said to our singer that he was extremely nervous. Now he made out that he was very experienced and did this sort of thing often and was fine with our set so that came as a bit of a worry. During the gig. I've never known a drummer to play so softly, he might as well had been using drinking straws for drum sticks and no matter how much encouragement to play harder, he simply wouldn't. At half time the the manager of the pub asked what was going on and that we could hardly be heard. This is a venue that we've played a few times before and we're well liked there. We told him that the sound would be sorted in the second set. Second set improved slightly, things seemed better and went down well with the punters. Not much was said after the gig. We thanked him for stepping in and we appreciated that he had little practice and was pretty much thrown in at the deep end. All in all we were happy with him and the next gig would obviously be better. We never heard from him after. Oh well, we'll have to try and find another drummer but this was all too much for our guitarist who quit a few days later saying that he didn't want the hassle. Gigs coming up and no band. Great! What a week it's been. 15 Quote

Decent size stage with backline provided, so nice to be able to hear myself for a change 😆 One of our backing vocalists is away, which makes a difference as we usually have 3 part harmonies going on. But we were told it sounded good FOH. Multi band line up, with the bands having nothing musically in common, but we brought a few people and apparently it was sold out. Didn't get time to take an office pic, it was a line check during changeover then on. There were plenty of pics taken by the punters, I'll post some when I get them. Gear: Ibanez UB804 (EUB) - Swift wireless - Fender Rumble combo (supplied backline) & Korg clip on tuner. Footwear: black leather brothel creepers with white interlace. Finally got some pics 16 1 Quote

wateroftyne Posted Sunday at 19:37 Posted Sunday at 19:37 (edited) Just a few hours rest from my Zurich adventure, before a 450 mile round-trip to North Wales to do an Eagles tribute show at the beautiful Rhyl Pavilion. A bit stressful 'cos there was a problem with he house PA.. thankfully - and by pure chance - we had ours in the van. Lucky escape. We had a great night. The show is really coming together after a year of hard work. I can start to relax a bit now. After a crazy few days I could do with a couple of days off to recover, but... back to work tomorrow. Ah well. Edited Sunday at 19:39 by wateroftyne 24 1 Quote

No one seems to want to commit to buying advance tickets until they've had the first payday after the Christmas break! We have a couple of gigs on the weekend after next and they have done pretty well for ticket sales. But they are in a different part of the country (Scotland and the North East) and everyone has been paid again now! Just to add that one of these gigs (both 'mid-sized' venues) has completely sold out and the other is not far off (as of Friday, with a week to go until the show). It just goes to show how chaotic the market for live music is at the moment and how different things are in different parts of the country! 3 Quote
