lojo
Does anyone know if the pick ups on a new MIA are better or any different to a current MIM Pbass? Edited March 3, 2010 by lojo
lojo
Not sure if I have asked the dumbest question ever or nobody who has viewed knows the answer?
Musicman20
I know the new USA pups have smooth pole pieces..if that helps? They definitely sound massive in the two I own.
tom1946
Had both and I'd say although the MIM is very good, the USA is more powerful without a doubt, I love mine.
Telebass
As per the standard, the USA pickup is around 10 to 11 kOhms DC resistance, the MIMS tend to be around six. Otherwise, not much difference in the sound, in my experience. My MIM has a '94 MIA pickup in it - didn't seem to sound much different to me... Grissle
Yes they are quite different, MIM's use cheap metal pole slugs with a cheap ceramic bar magnet across the bottom. Whereas the USA's (and other well made pups) use quality Alnico magnet poles. "Generally" speaking quality pups will have more natural warmer lows and mids with smoother (less metallic or clanky) high's.
