Pete Cornish Cables

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, just got a couple of Pete Cornish guitar/bass instrument cables.

OMFG! the sound quality and volume compared to my old cables was unbelieveable. :)

Volume and clarity were so prononced that i thought i had knocked a couple of dials on the ABM.

Pete has offered to make bass versions of his pedals....

does anyone use any of them?

Kind regards
Marc

No I haven't... I very rarely use FX pedals. But I do know that his pedals have an incredible reputation - expensive, but you'd be getting the best money can buy.
With all respect, a cable will not boost volume, although a high capacitance cable will reduce highs and a cable with a bad joint may attenuate signal.

Enjoy your new cables.
Maybe it just appears louder as the quality of sound is better, thanks for the advice tho.

Once more into the breach with this topic lads and ladetts

Has anyone done controlled testing with cables ?

i.e. keep the rig identicle (inc guitar settings) but change only the cables, compare different brands, lengths, etc using several different listeners then compare notes etc

then compare with passive and active basses

Could also check with oscilloscope to compare frequency conduction over cable length of different brands

Or is this too scientific ?

perhaps could do this at a bash ?

T

:)

I have to say it really is a big difference. Ive replaced my pedalboard return cable and only have the link cables between my pedals to change.
Once they turn up i'll do an a/b test and post the difference.

By the way the length of my previous cable (planetwaves) was 5m the new Pete Cornish one is 7m.
My return cable to the amp is 4m instead of 5m (planetwaves).

Thought I would spring for a new cable (the sun is shining!)
Mailed Pete on Sunday morning for a price, he replied Sunday evening.
I transfered the money on Monday morning, Pete built the cable and is shipping Monday afternoon.

Service second to none say I!

I believe we should do what we can to support local (UK) companies in our kit buying (Yes, I know my amps and cabs are Swedish :) )
If the cables are half as good as I hope, then I will change all my interconnects as soon as I can afford it

Fantastic! There's no other way to describe his service and products. Pete deals with the likes of Gilmour, Clapton, Page, McCartney, etc the list is endless and yet he has the time to reply to us "normal" customers and get the products out with in the week!

Im waiting for my pedal board leads to turn up along with an extension speaker lead aswell.

Expensive...YES

Worth it ... WITHOUT A DOUBT!

I've done A/B tests with different cables and there is a 'hearable' difference. I did a couple of gigs last year with a fairly well known guitarist and he used Pete Cornish cables.
We did a comparison with my Evidence audio cables, and a few others that I'd got, a Zaollo and a Vovox. There was definitely a difference in tone between each one. You wouldn't notice it on the everage gig, but possibly on recordings you may.

Why doesn't one of you born-again cable fans at least post some recordings of the incredible differences between your cables on here? Until then, all we have is your opinions. Or better still, why not measure the cables and post the measurements on here with your conclusions?

I've heard some very convincing side-by-side recordings where high capacitance cables reduced higher frequencies for guitar compared to low capacitance ones, but I'd have thought bass much less susceptible. However since the original cable in question was a planet waves then there's a strong possibility it was faulty, and that's why there's such a big difference.
Is this some kind of viral fan club?

Not impressed...
Errrr...
This is what's commonly known as a 'web forum'. What happens is someone starts a topic & if people have a sensible response to do with the opening post then they might choose to post a reply about their knowledge/experience of Pete Cornish cables. They might like them, they might not. The OP thinks they're really good - so I would presume he thought others might want to check them out.
As to whether you're 'impressed' or not? Thanks for your valuable input. It's been really helpful.
That's £40 worth of soldering then!

As it takes around 10 minutes to make an excellent quality cable that's £240 an hour!
That's as may be - but who can put a price on pixie dust?

The quality of your response is second to none :)

I can understand completely why people might get a little evangelistic (particularly on a 'web forum' specialising in bass guitar) over bass guitars, also amplification... probably pedals on occasion... rather less so when it comes to wire and plugs.

(edit: The irony of my twice bumping a thread promoting Mr Cornish's Very Fine Cables isn't lost on me! )
