stu the map
Hi y'all sorry to barge straight in with a techie question but i'm really in need of some help. I'd like to replace the pickups on my elderly & decrepit (but much loved) mexican jazz bass - it dates from the early 90s & both pickups measure 92 x 19mm with a gap between screw holes of 40mm. Will anything off the shelf fit these dimensions? All the ones i can seem to find are different dimensions for the neck & bridge which don't look like they'll fit. Will have a go at minor mods if necessary (it's not exactly a thing of beauty anymore) but the easier the replacement the better really. All help very gratefully received cheers stu
Buzz
Do be dooooo, contact Andy at Wizard Guitars (google it), and he'll build you pups to the spec you need for a competive price. To be fair, it's a mexi jazz, pretty much any j-bass pup should fit in them.
stu the map
Hi Buzz cheers for that - Andy was one of the first people i contacted & he came back very quickly with this: your pickups would seem to both be neck spaced - BUT the mounting lugs seem further apart than normal. Ours are 91.5 x 18 and the mounting lugs centres are approx 37mm apart. Looks like you'll have to get something from Fender. Somewhere along the line they seem to have changed the pups in the mexican jazz - newer ones i believe would take any number of replacement pups but not sure they'll fit the routing in my bass. Mr. Foxen
CAn't you use the existing casing and have the content replaced or rewound?
