I remember looking at those BK integrated modules, having difficulties finding anything similar though, will keep searching...

I did find this though http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BK-Electronics-Stereo-Mosfet-Amplifier-Model-No-MXF200_W0QQitemZ190340188832QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Consumer_VintageAudio_RL?hash=item2c5128caa0 ://http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BK-Electronic...item2c5128caa0

It's actually a 3U rack mount power amp. The current one is in a 2U chassis, so I guess this one's pretty old. Link here

I had one of the MXF400 models (still got half of it in fact), and it was pretty reliable, but large and heavy for the amount of power it put out.

3U :) I think this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT is 2u, would one of the older matamp's deliver? certainly has a charm about it

i know both RCF and DB do "panel" amps, but maybe only as replacements for existing customers who have killed them.. Would be interesting if a dealer could order just the amp..

To be fair the Berg active cabs are not just a power amp chucked into a cab, they have onboard DSP to tune the cab as well. I do realise that when done in bulk and the R&D costs are done and dusted then it is not a massively expensive part, but the IP is an elegant solution and I no longer have debilitating amp GAS

ah yes, just had a look - although he recommends it as a hifi amp? not sure if that is a good or bad thing!

I'd suggest that most of the time most semi pro players won't actually need or use the features on offer in that Markbass unit. How is someone going to use a USB programmable eq in a real situation? Are they really going to have enough opportunity at soundcheck time to use their laptop to tweak the eq for the stage acoustics? Are the rest of the band going to play long enough just so the bass player can get their sound right? I seriously doubt it if there are deadlines involved for setting up.

For what its worth though, a Behringer Ultracurve does the same job of flattening out the response curve.
interesting idea - will the sound of a pa monitor be suitable as a bass cab? any idea the most suitable if such a thing exists??
This is probably your best option unless you really want to spend a lot of time or money. A PA speaker is designed to handle bass at the level of the rest of the band and may even go down lower than most bass cabs, frequency limitations are unlikely to be a problem. You are going to be limited though to just a single speaker + horn in most cabs so the ultimate sound levelwill be lower than say a 4x10, not a problem unless you have silly levels on stage though. Remember that PA speakers are designed to have a neutral sound and some bass speakers are designed to add character by having an uneven frequency response. If you like the sound of DI'd bass you are going to like this route, all you'll get is then sound of your bass it is going to sound very clean.

It may be worth looking for one with a DSP (digital processor ) in it which will give you a lot of protection for the speaker increasing the reliability, if it includes compression in the processor then it will give you extra loudness. Active PA speakers should be more reliable than many combo's in any case.

Finally you get what you pay for in PA units just like instrument amps the best ones will be loud deep and reliable the cheaper ones not so much.
