Hot Tub Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 So, I'm stuck in (what is effectively) a hotel room, noodling through my Tascam thingy, and I decided to play around with the built in effects. Long story short, I've settled on a wee bit of chorus (if anyone's interested in the settings, Depth and Mix both at 10, Level at about 2 o'clock) and the difference is amazing! It's really "filled out" the sound of the bass, but the effect itself is not intrusive, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I got to thinking, who uses just a wee bit of chorus as a component of your "standard" sound when playing live? Or is this something which really only works for headphone practise? Quote
gary mac Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I've just had my first foray in to the world of chorus, having recently purchased a pedal. We have been rehearsing Duran Durans Save a Prayer and according to John Taylor, chorus was used on the original recording. It does sound damn fine, but I have only used it in rehearsal so far. Good fun and I think a very useful effect, but not to be overused! Quote
BluRay Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I think a tiny bit of chorus definately adds a shine to the sound. I use a very small amount live tho - else it sounds mushy and 1980s! and only when I'm not using any other effects, suboctave or whatever. less is more I think :-) Quote
Faithless Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 What gives bass a bit of shine and 'space' is, no doubt, Reverb.. Quote
xilddx Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I use all sorts but a little chorus and reverb is a fairly standard practice for me. Quote
Bass-ic Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I like the Chorus sound on the tascam, so mine stays on a lot of the time. Quote
BassJase Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I always use a small amount of chorus together with a bit of distortion live, nice Tool kind of sound, especially when playing with a pick (which I rarely do.) I love my MP-BT1, great piece of kit and I use mine all the time for home rehearsing. Quote
