[quote name='lowdown' post='811268' date='Apr 19 2010, 01:01 PM']I really like the feel Marcus Miller gets on the fretless Bass solo around 02:45 on this track.
Really lyrical...
Its an oldie, i think he was about 20 when he recorded it.

The Live Japan album was very good..and he shipped the whole NY band over to play with S Watanabe.
Sounded like they had great fun..

Not sure about the cowboy rig though :)

I do think there's a little more to it than that - great choice by the way. Like my example of Papa Was A Rolling Stone - OK, its 4 notes, we can all play it but keeping it sweet for 6+ minutes. To me, it is when there's no real virtuosity or no incredible groove going but the tone, timing and relationship to the music are just right. (Sorry, I'm getting to sound pretentious here) :)

I think this is a really difficult and subjective one to nail, as feel and groove are closely linked. If I were to choose someone who possessed the ultimate in feel, I would have to agree with Bubinga and go for Me'Shell. Richard Bona would be a close second.

Good thread.

I was going to use Pat Badger from Extreme as my example of good 'feel' and began a youtube search. Up popped this guy playing the bass for Cupid's Dead.
Now, I hope he's one of us so that I can bestow my kudos upon him.... not for the fact that it is difficult (far from it for a compentent player), but more because he just 'feels' the song and he gets it spot on.

Splendid stuff!!

Couldn't find a postable clip - the youtube ones link elsewhere, but just been learning "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt - lovely fretless from James Hatchinson.
