Errr its the Space Bass baby.

Almost all Bootsy's basses from PFunk on have been variations on this theme, custom built for him (originally) with various mental numbers of pups in them.

He said it sounded pretty pants, before now, until he fed it through the gazzillion fx pedals in three seperate chains into his three way 18 cab rig :) (I am not kidding, his rig was simply the biggest out there at the time). Then it sounded bootzilicious baby, yeah!

Who are we to argue with the master

Ooh, that reminds me....
That clip is taken from the BBC classic "Rockschool" programme with Dierdre "Girlschool" Cartwright, Henry "King Thumb" Thomas and Geoff "Geoff" Nicholls.
Does ANYONE have a copy, no matter how ropey, of the first series? PM if you do...

And he now plays a Warwick, or has a Warwick model out!

I tried to find the link but can't load it for some reason....

Here's the URL

Bootsy rules, man! Although the opposite of what I actually play I think him and Hub from The Roots are near the top of my list bass-wise!

Molan does, or at least used to

I think that is Space Bass which was made by Larry Pless. I think Bootsy had
it modified at one point to have five pickups.

Man you gotta love Bootsy :)

I went to a TM Stevens clinic years ago and he was emphasizing the importance of the ONE. As TM's a shy and retiring type, it was both fun and educational.

All this Bootsy stuff makes you wonder why some slap bassists go and ruin it all......

No wonder he bungs so much fuzz on...
agreed on the sound, but could funk with a plank, and that is what matters!

+1. Bootsy is the funkiest man i've ever seen (not the most technical...but the funkiest)-listen to his tight looseness on the early JB's stuff-you could bottle that funk and sell it (on a Jazz too and not Casper!)! I went through 'playing on the one' university to the point i didn't want to play a note for ages (sometimes not for weeks  ) and rather wait for another big one to come round, bit like waiitng for a big wave to surf....gotta surf the biggest groove baba...dig

Dennis Chambers did a good drum video too and talked about the one! :)

That will be this one then... 5 pickups and three pre-amps!?

Thinks it's a Washburn

But it's not exactly the same model as your video

No.

And I don't get what the problem is with Bootsy's "tone" in the video posted. Like any good musician he has exactly the right sound for the music he's playing and the other musicians he's playing it with.

I've been ummm, what's the word..... fortunate?? to play Barrie's Bootsy bass. It's as ugly as Hell and really uncomfortable but actually sounds amazing and really powerful. It certainly is a jaw-dropping design and the case is the size of a double bed :)
