Made in Mexico using US hardware, though the neck was always a bit of a mystery. It says 'made in USA', but AFAIK US made necks of the time had the truss rod adjustment at the body end. Basically it should be treated as a MIM.
warwickhunt
I'm always dubious of sellers professing to know nothing, acting a bit dumb but knowing enough to tempt you. He has a friend who worked for Fender (whatever) then surely that friend would have told him about the earthing wire to the bridge, it's certainly one of the first things I'd be asking a knowledgeable friend! I'm sure there are loads of knowledgeable Fender heads on here that'll identify the bass right down to the screws used on the s'plate but I still think the seller's patter stinks.
