NEW Fender Deluxe Models!

They certainly look very nice, very Sadowskyish in terms of features.

I kinda liked the humbucker on the P bass as it added a real added 'ooomph' to the sound, now its just a standard PJ bass which really doesn't excite or interest me. I might be in the minority though.

Colours and body shape are a great improvement on the last/current US Deluxe line. I always hated the Black/Montego orangey combination!

The move to 22 frets is a shame but maybe they needed to do that to complement the new body shape. I would have liked a 24 fret jazz bass but there you go.

Finish options on the P seem to be:

- olympic white with black pickguard and rosewood fingerboard

- natural, black, maple

- wine transparent, black, rosewood

- sunburst, black, rosewood

- black, black, maple

and I guess the same for the J.

They're on the Thomann website. Doesn't look like they have them in stock yet though...

Damn, in one fell swoop this bass would solve two drivers of current GAS:

- wanting a natural body / black pick guard combination on a Precision á la John Deacon (although shame about the maple fretboard)
- wanting a bass with a P-Bass PUP at the neck instead of a Jazz PUP

Oh and potentially a third one too:

- a gratuitous number of nobs to fiddle with and therefore keep up the illusion that I know exactly how to shape my bass tone...

Mingusbass on Talkbass has just took delivery on one.

Apparently Fender are releasing all the info in 2 weeks...launch on site etc.

Well, I know I was after a super Fender 5 string bass, and my budget was a lot higher than these are probably going to be, but basically Fender have nailed most of my features in these new basses.

Check this....THIS is the one:

5 String, blocks, passive switch, new pups and circuit, lovely colour, rosewood board, 70s logo. If these play as well as they look, I can forget getting a custom...this is it.

The Talkbass thread on the first post has more updates and this pic from Mingusbass:

Im glad someone at Fender finally listened to the customer. Good 08-10 USA Series, and now these!
Blimey Gareth that Oly White J5 is a looker and a half. Does the PJ come in any body colours other than black or natural?
Thats what I thought. If the new electrics are upto scratch, I think Ive just saved myself a fair amount of cash going custom. Ill have too hear them first though.

Ill have to look at the colours with the PJ....
