Mingusbass on Talkbass has just took delivery on one.

Apparently Fender are releasing all the info in 2 weeks...launch on site etc.

Well, I know I was after a super Fender 5 string bass, and my budget was a lot higher than these are probably going to be, but basically Fender have nailed most of my features in these new basses.

Check this....THIS is the one:

http://www.musicpower.com/mmMUSICPOWER/Ima...194690705-f.jpg

5 String, blocks, passive switch, new pups and circuit, lovely colour, rosewood board, 70s logo. If these play as well as they look, I can forget getting a custom...this is it.

The Talkbass thread on the first post has more updates and this pic from Mingusbass:

Im glad someone at Fender finally listened to the customer. Good 08-10 USA Series, and now these!
yep, if it plays as good as it looks...this could be the way for you to go... and you'd get it quicker as well..

It looks like my custom....

Thank god they arent more than £1500.

Itd be interesting to A/B the Metro Sadowsky to one of these. The Metro bass in this spec is £500 more ish.

Im definitely interested in that Jazz.

Yep. I can probably get it in 6-8 months if I save well.

Not only that, its £1000 cheaper than getting a custom. OK, I wont get that custom 'feel', but I cant really say no to the fact this ticks all my boxes and no doubt still has the classic Fender growl in passove as well as the active.

Lets hope the active is decent....if not I suppose I could wait and upgrade it at some point.

An East Retro deluxe will drop straight in but if they are aiming at Sadwosky, then they will have to hit ther pre-amp as well..
Will gtrgtr get one in asap..?

I reckon soundslive will get them in first round here and no doubt guitarguitar will get them as well.

I reckon they wont get over here for a good few months anyway.

Their pre-amp needs to be good....the last Deluxe I had was the P with the Humbucker and split P pup...not my thing. These new Jazzes seem nice though.

I'm not really a Fender man but they do look gooooood.

My eldest (5) has just said that he'll lend me the money to get the red P with the black scratch, it's his favourite, apparently black is a bit dull. :)

Wow, those look great!

I'd love a Black & Maple PJ, a Natural with blocks Jazz 5 and a Black & Maple with blocks Jazz 4, please..

I'd have loved to see the PJ with jazz necks profiles instead :)

Yep....apparently Fender tried to keep these basses from being leaked. I imagine they wanted a large website/email promo all on the same day with launch at a show.

Some of the dealers in the USA obtained them early and advertised straight away. Either way, its worked, as I really want one.

There are rumours that Fender give these instruments special attention when it comes to fit/finish/fretwork. Basically, trying to take a slice of the super-jazz/precision market.

Kudos to them I say...if they get it right and keep the prices at what Ive seen (or lower as normally occurs when they have been out for a while) then Ill be making an order.

I would love to A/B these with a Sadowsky Metro....

Hmm, not my kinda thing. Active electronics and too many knobs for me (the Precision in particular - only one less switch and one less knob than my AD200B amp head)

I normally would agree....but Im finding a 5 string works better (Jazz) with a little help and a few modern twists.

No doubt all the knobs will stay pretty much in one point for me.

Specs and photos are now officially on the Fender site

I like the 'highly detailed fret and nut work' part.

Baggsy the White 5 string Jazz with rosewood neck.

Those blocks/bindings are killer.

Elecs are 18v.

Very interesting....as soon as I hear some positive reviews from a players perspective (eg good B and good electrics) Ill be taking one.

Is it me or is the fourth knob on the Precision too close to the jack socket? All looks a little too bunched up for me. Why didn't they put the jack socket on the lower edge? See Oly White one below:

I agree, although Im not a fan of ever trying to improve the simple P design or making it active. In fact, even with a 4 string Jazz I wouldnt mess with it, but a 5er sometimes needs that little extra.

I used to have the American Deluxe Precision with the H + P pickups, and it really wasnt my cup of tea.

Heres hoping they sound good.

The Jazz control layout looks much better

Doesn't this look so much neater by comparison (I appreciate its not active, but I am talking design) - the Tony Franklin fretted. Now that I like a LOT
